Airplane Baggage VS Carry On Concerns for Explorer

Haven't flown with my detector since 9-11 and decided to take it on this trip next week. I have a hard case modified for the Explore XS and it fits the detector, stock loop, upper and lower shaft, plus 2 batteries and charger plus car charger and also 2 battery operated probes by Whites. I haven't called the Airport but am concerned about the charger and batteries. Has anyone had a problem or am I being overly concerned and should I pack the extras in baggage ????

I have taken my Excaliber or Explorer on quite a few flights this past year. I pack them in my carry-on(small suitcase) and havent had any problems. I leave the batteries in or attached to the detectors just in case they want me to turn them on.

I took mine to MI for a forum hunt this past summer. I decided to put all my detectors in one tote bag (lots of bubble pack) and my digging tools in another. I put a note in the bag with the MD's that said, "UNPOWERED METAL DETECTORS... if you have any questions call me @....." and left my cell number. All I asked them to do was pack the stuff up carefully if they had to take it all apart. When I picked up my stuff on the other end, there was a note inside with a security decal that said, "Thanks Joe!" I guess they appreciated the heads up.

I think if you pack them well enough, there's no sense in going through the hassle of trying to get them on as carry on baggage.

Just my opinion.

If I run into problems I'll post from Sunny Southern Ca. when I arrive, if not when I return. Thanks Everyone

Hi JB, you're right, you have nothing to worry about, I just came to Riverside, CA from El Salvador with my CL IDX and digging tools (including a Lesche Model 85 which looks like a knife), they were neatly put in one of my suitcases and they came intact, I also placed in the suitcase the batteries and charger and they didn't say anything. Don't worry about it, I do suggest carrying your Explorer in a hand-held suitcase just for added security, it's no fun when you lose a Expensive detector like the Explorer, specially one you've made custom disc patterns. I couldn't bring my Explorer because I forgott the suitcase at home (Dammit!), but a friend si bringing it to me the 21st so no biggie, I do miss it though, I feel as if a brand new detector is arriving! So, my advice... don't worry about it, chances are everything will be OK.

Explorers meet in strange places, were actually headed to Riverside the 13th and leave for home the 21st. My intents are to hit the beach for at least one day while there and I have a couple of other spots for land hunting I hit about once or twice a year.

Talk about a coinsidence! Wish I could tell you of some good places to hunt but I'm really new here (1 month) and I haven't done much research for good old places to hunt, only for places to prospect. As you know my Explorer is still in El Salvador... maybe next time wecan meet up to detect, by the time I've probably found some good places to hunt!
