All Metal

Just got back from an "All metal" hunt...

Used auto Sensitivity, high trash, used the cross saved ferrous mode, was fun... found a few coins easy to discern out trash.

Interesting though, had nice clear, crisp tones for the finds. Plan on using this mode more often, kind of enjoyed it.

My only down item is, I wish the depth indicator was a bit better, oh well.

I think the depth indicator is accurate for coins and small metal as I've read it's calibrated for coin-sized targets. Crushed cans and can slaw may read just a few inches in depth, but turn out to be a foot deep. So when pinpointing, try raising and lowering coil a couple of times, and if target screams as you're still a few inches above ground, you'll know you're over large metal and can choose to dig or move on. Not sure who of our buddies offered that helpful hint, might've been KinTN, but not sure.

Thanks for the info...

I believe your right on the coin size.

Sometimes I wish it had a numeric value instead of a blank bar, I guess its both good and bad....

Ken is right. The depth indicator is calibrated for a dime size target. And as he said, lift the coil high to see if the signal is still there or if it disappears. All Metal mode is the way to go when targets are far apart. It goes deeper and covers a much wider path than Disc mode. All Metal mode will even beep on targets that are near the edge of the coil. Disc mode has to be centered over the target pretty well.

So if you were hunting a wide open field with little trash would you use the all metal mode and due you believe that's how you would get the most depth out of the machine ???

When I use this mode, I am not so much looking for depth, but rather just what is out there.

Depth, to me is not an issue, I think we all understand that we already get decent depth with the Safari anyway.

I am just trying to see what items are out there, and of them what are decent and repeatable targets.

Any other thought or uses from other folks I would love to hear and learn from!

I tried the all metal mode today in a spot I have been in a few times, it's a small area. I found a beautiful Barber Dime 1912, a war nickel and some pennies. I will be using the all metal mode more often. I think the sound is more revealing in that mode, I am better able to distinguish what it is when there is other things around. When I found the nickel there was two pennies in the same hole. I was getting a weird sound but I knew it was a coin.
