It takes me awhile friends. While trying to make an informed decission, the confusion while looking on the alternative German and Mexican PI detector web sites did not help. However I'm coming back around that the Deepstar will be my next weapon of choise. That's if my I can convince my wife of its virtues. I'm going to purchase a two box first due to its relative lower cost and see what it can do. Again my goal is to have a PI to ignore smaller targets. If that means a modification on the Deepstar or using a 30-40" coil so be it. Thanks for all your e-mails and replies and most of all patience.

I'm curious what kind of depth you expect to get with a two box? I bought one when I first got into metal detecting expecting to get 9 feet as they all claimed. The best depth I got in the ground or in an air test (using a van) was 4feet. When I posed this to others on the metal detecting forums about this, they agreed that was the best they got with a 2 box. I sold the detector and bought an Analog Systems Black widow which KellyCo use to sell (don't do business with that company anymore) which runs on three 9volt batteries. I could airtest the van at 8 feet with that low power pulse detector on a 3 foot square coil. It is a small non motion no frills detector but it seems to do a pretty decent job. I opened it to have a look at the electronics after I found this forum, and while the numbers have been scraped off of the chips, it looks like a typical PI circuit with nothing standing out as out of the ordinary. I suspect from what I see, a couple of mods would easily increase its performance.

PS- I never measured the soda can distance with my Deepstar but it was far better than 2feet. Seems like it was 3 or 4 feet. It is difficult to turn it on in my playroom and keep it from picking up anything.

As good as it seems so the Deepers 6 looks even better. But how can you test then? Where are the testimonials? Where is the proof and established credibility. If in purchasing a Deepstar I have not found the deepest cache hunting detector on the planet then it will be the 2nd or 3rd and I'll still be as happy as if it was the absolute deepest in the world. ie. support, credibility, price, accessable inventor and saleman and of course you people out there owning and reporting the great results.

John I think that you will be greatly disappointed with the performance of a two box detector. I use a Minelab SD and its depth performance is far better than the published figures for two-box systems that I have seen. I know what the Minelabs are capable of but have never personally used a two box type detector but we did do some tests with a pipe locator detector and the SD and found that the pipe we were looking for was detected easily by both machines. The pipe was supposed to be at about the three foot deep mark but was only located and not uncovered.
One of the deepest holes I have dug with the minelab was measured at 34in and was a piece of 2in boiler tube about 12in long.
