HOW ABOUT IT-Need some helpful insight on how to hunt that old dump up at my in-laws'place without destroying everything that might be worth something-THANKS;Steve!!!

We have dug probably 30 dumps here over the years. A big difference here is everything's so dry so it's a lot easier digging/sifting. When we find a dump worth digging we go down to hard pan - or the original layer of dirt back there. We use a sifter here with 1/4 inch mesh but the wetter the ground the harder it is to use.
If your site is good to dig then pretty much dig from the center out till it stops. And like Mike said, the deeper items will be older.
