Aloe Vera Gel....

Pete in MI

New member
Something to keep handy. I went detecting yesterday (5/3/07) on a site that has once been the location of one of the oldest hotels in my little town.

Had a great time detecting for about 3 or so hours. Mostly junk and a few coins. Got home and decided I better cut the grass. Since the lawnmower hadn't been used all winter and had set outside it took longer to get it running then get the grass cut..about another hour or two outside.

Maybe you're wondering what this all has to do with Aloe Vera Gel?

I wore a hat all day - both detecting and working on the lawn and mower. It was a beautiful sunny day...and I forgot one important thing...sunburn!

My neck was extremely red and by the time half the grass was cut I could feel the burning heat in my neck from the sunburn. Forgot to use suntan lotion on myself all day yesterday.

I tried rubbing alcohol to help cool down the burning. It worked a little. Didn't want to put any cremes or lotions on the burn otherwise it would trap the heat in and cause more damage to the skin and cells below.

We have a big jug of Aloe Vera Gel and my wife said it would cut the heat. At that point I was too hungry and burning to care what she put on my neck. The gel went on and felt icy cold - it had been sitting at room temperature. I put more on before going to bed and again this morning. Right now I don't feel any burning and had I not used the gel I am sure I would be in total misery this morning.

So as a suggestion, get some Aloe Vera Gel and keep it on hand for those time you forget to use or don't have sunscreen and you have a nasty sunburn.
