Alpaca Silver...good to know!

Goldstrike

Well-known member
I'm sharing pic's of a bracelet made of Alpaca 'silver' I detected on the beach. As you can see, it's stamped 925 and looks like silver but if you Google the word Alpaca, you'll find it isn't true silver and is a composite of metals that has been used for a very long time. You can do the research yourself but this is good to know when you do come across this silver looking metal! Also, if you look close, you can see tiny pits which I don't think you'll see on a real silver ring or piece of silver jewellery. I tested a 925 Tiffany ring I detected previously just in case I was wrong on the readings and that came up 38-39 in the range where you would expect it to be.
By the way, it registers 11-12 and comes in as a deep tone on my Safari and in the gold range.....so I had to dig it!!!

You may want to Google 'Alpaca silver' otherwise it'll just give you a description of a Lama looking animal!!! lol!

GS, great info there, thanks. The animals were the first thing that can to mind when I read your post. There used to be tv commercials in the New York City -Philadelphia markets for raising Alpacas in South Jersey as I recall in the 1990's through the early 2000's as I recall. Croaker, remember them ?
