Alpha 2000 caught my eye.

Was a bit difficult to buy because not many carry them. Mr Bill tried to supply one but alas! his was broke. Finally got one ordered.

What caught my eye was that it appeared to have full notching across the whole range of target categories if you look at the picture or read the manual. It looked like I could disc or notch out every target category and then notch in foil and nickel and then hunt for the deeper targets below the surface trash by watching the depth reading. That interested me.

Picked it up Thursday night. It uses the BH type 8" coil and cable with the Tek type connector. The 10" eliptical concentric and 11" DD coil from my Omega all function normally with it like I hoped they would. My 5" DD will be in next week and I'll check it out too.

The picture of the faceplate is mis-leading. Just another "take a pic and get it out there before the thing is fully developed" type of thing. It does not have full notching. Discrimination and Notching features only work up to and including the zinc category. But I like it at this moment. It is a very nice, simple to operate detector that appears, in air tests. to have pretty decent performance for the price point and category.

It has a feature that I wish was on my Omega. That is the Volume control. Changing the volume on the Alpha doesn

Keep us posted. Just have not seen a lot of users with the 2000 yet. interesting how it compares to the omega.

thanks

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the post. I have the Delta 4000 and am interested in your experience with the 10" DD coil. Could you perhaps do an air test between the standard 8" coil and the DD? Please let us know your impressions. I bought the Delta because it's light and I liked the TID #'s. My air tests seemed to get a repeatable signal on a quarter at 8-9" using sensitivity 11. I would buy the DD if it indeed went deeper than the stock coil. Also, any comments regarding pinpointing.

Thanks,
Bobby

The DD will give you about 2+" more depth and of course MUCH more coverage at depth with minimal overlap.

I don't know if you have ever used DD coils before. Typically a DD coil does not give much of an increase in depth over a concentric unless you are hunting sites where the mineralization severely limits the concentric coils performance. In those sites a DD coils see a lesser volume of dirt and so perform better than the concentric and will give better depth results. Since the Delta use a preset ground balance, the 10" DD coil might give a noticeable increase in depth over the 8" concentric in certain sites. I will say for sure that you will not see less depth than the 8" coil, but I can't say for sure that you will see any increase in depth. The ground you are hunting in always has the last say in that matter.

The big difference that you will see will be an increase in target separation and an increase of ground coverage at depth. Those two differences alone make up for the cost of the coil. DD's coils also make up a lot for sloppy overlap techniques (which is why I can hunt behind you and still find stuff you should have found but didn't).

Mike it sounds like the perfect setup for hunting gold jewelery in the turf, and should make for a nice fresh water lake jewelery hunter too

That's one thing that I really like about the CZ70 is it's ability to notch in/out ANY target segment.

I wonder why they don't do that on modern machines like the F75 LTD or Omega

Mike, thanks for making the direct input to the engineer about the lack of volume control. I have been considering trying an Omega, but found out that it doesn't have volume control, and that made it less appealing to me.

NO volume control on Omega is annoying. I did find a headphones that had a volume control built in so that seems to work. Seems to be a very simple thing to add to a detector design no???

Thanks for bearing with me.
Mike
