Ammo for beginners & their mates

If you have a "reluctant to buy" spouse when it comes to detecting then listen to some cold facts.

I averaged my finds between the gold & silver jewelry and coins I have dug & redeemed this last 5 years and came up with $955.00 per year. That's what I make free & clear. I always have put all my silver coins in the safe deposit so I didnt count them. Plus, once in a while you will get lucky and dig a rarity for big bucks. I have dug and sold 4-5 items from 100 bux to 600 bux.

Now, I am detecting about every other day as I am retired, plus there's lots of people here to drop things. So you might be working full time but still can figure roughly how much you could make going out part time. And as you get better the finds will increase for you. I am still setting personal coin numbers records after 30 years digging.

So when you are faced with the question "isn't the machine too expensive" ? then remember this post and explain how you can pay for it in a year or so. All my detectors have more than paid for themselves over the last 30 years.

And if that doesn't work then ask "how many hobbies do you come home with more money than you left with "?

I'm sure others here will tell you they have more than paid for their detectors also.

"The more I dig the luckier I get."

and if you live where you can dig gold jewelry on a regular basis like on the ocean you can make even more! All my machine are way past paid for! :)

One ring I found and sold paid not only for the Garrett GTAx-1250 I owned but I bought an ACE 350 from a hock shop and sold it on eBay for a $25 profit as well. Over $200 in coins were converted to cash and the money used to pay for everyone's meal at Sherry and I wedding in a Chinese restaurant. I have brought home a weed eater that was found and missing a spool. Using it and taking the spool off my broken weed eater I had a working one that cost me nothing.

And of course how can you put a price on the friends and the fellowship we get from being here on this forum? Priceless.

And how much can one say is saved when trash is removed from playgrounds where children could have gotten hurt from the items we remove. Just one doctor or emergency room run would probably be more than the detector.

Some things to think about. Thanks for bringing it up Steve.

BTW Pete's Wife...I could use another coil for the Minelab...a nice S.E.F. 10x12 and/or 6x8 would be real nice (wink)

Yes to all the above and no one mentioned what all that walking and swinging can do for a peron's health plus getting out and seeing God's beautiful world! Of course, if we overdo in :detecting: and get overly tired, then it is like any other job or hobby and is our fault for going gung-ho and not using common sense of which was kinda guilty of myself! God Bless! I've been digging more clad quarters and dimes that I've avoided in the past because they were shallow and I just wanted the deep oldies. I've also been trying lots of new spots and that's the only way you'll know for sure if it's a good place to hunt.
