An EXCELLENT site on antique and commemorative cemetery Flag Markers. It even has a picture of a Canadian one on the home page, Steve!

The site (linked below) includes the names and acronyms of various fraternal organizations and secret societies that provide such markers for your referencing, including the 11 recognized U.S. conflicts (dates and abbreviations) warranting War Veteran status.
Maybe you can keep it somehow for future referencing.
There was a time when many folks would take these items to keep or even pawn as scrap metal. Thus the strict Federal law against even simple possession of these artifacts. Some of these can still be found at old home and farm sites. If found, while detecting, you should turn it over immediately to an appropriate VA office or Organization that originally provided the marker or plaque. Don't forget and get "caught" with one! This item is NOT a relic...it's an historical cemetery ARTIFACT and no one is going to back you up legally or morally if you decide to keep one.

Please remember that, by law, you cannot move, harm, vandalize, destroy, alter, buy, sell, pawn or personally possess ANY cemetery flag markers (antique or modern). Browsing the sub links, I've found, was very interesting and informative in regards to the various organizations and their ties with past conflicts and veterans.

...lots of info there. Also a great reference of logos from many organisations and timeframes. Definitely a bookmark, thanks!
Below is a link to a google image search of flagholders at a glance.

Below is a link to a thread about this. Cheers.

it is free and I use it all the time. It adds a google toorbar, below the address bar and it is quick to search anything up. It even has a "Picture" search icon and you can get just pictures of almost anything.
I have use it for quite a while and find it very useful

It also has a great Popup stopper built in and you can set up a free blog there too. If you don't know what a blog is it stands for -web log- it is a place you can put your storys, thoughts, pictures or what every you want to share publicly( as I do mine) or privately.
This is an example of what I use mine for--http://royalott.blogspot.com/
it is free. Look it over.
