An Idea for Garrett or someone who has time to make these. Special lower/middle rod for ATX, Will use Infinium DD coils.

Here's a lower/middle rod I made about a year ago, For the Recon but now that I hear Infinium DD coils will work with the ATX this will be great for those wanting to use Infinium DD coils with the ATX.

Is adjustable but not to the degree as the ATX coils due to the cable, Still can adjust to ones height or will collapse for certain types of hunting so still a decent shaft.

The reason why I'm posting this is maybe Garrett or someone with time and $$$ can produce these for ATX users, It's a bit lighter than the standard ATX shaft but as I said due to the Infininum cable will not fully collapse. However, Will use any of the Infinium DD coils so no need to have a shaft for each coil.

Have an idea for another shaft, Light and sporty looking completely different than this first prototype yet still be a neat shaft for the ATX allowing usage of Infinium DD coils.

Might as well spring for an ATX now, Have the 5"X10" DD with lower/middle for it now

Does Garrett make a DD coil that is waterproof that will work on the ATX? Thinking about getting an ATX but it is soooo ugly, yours is pretty.

Thanks Cal,

I've used Infinium DD coils in the water, The larger DD in the ocean when I had an Infinium and the smaller 5"X10" DD in fresh water with the Recon but that was with shallow water wasn't very deep.

I agree, The Military appearance is kind of on the rough side but they are built like a tank. A good looking coil makes a difference with the ATX especially with the modified 5"X10" DD, Plus is a pound lighter swings so much easier over all a good coil for both the recon and ATX.

Thanks again,
Paul (Ca)

The stock coil for the ATX is a DD and is waterproof.

Thanks frag, You're correct stock DD with the ATX is waterproof.

Thanks again,
paul

The small Infinium DDs are not waterproof and will not tollerate much water pressure. use them in 2 or 3 foot of water and you are pushing your luck. They are not resign filled like the mono'sand the coil housing will distort under pressure.
Having said that; I have used mine in a foot or so of ocean and no probs yet but it is risky.

Hi Guys
Would the Infinium coils perform any batter than the 12" DD ATX coils? I agree that it would be great if we could get a smaller, lighter coil but I would want it to perform as well if not better than the stock coils. Any test results would be great.
Cheers

Thanks Paul, That's what I was kinda thinking I'm too old to go much deeper than knee deep
Great looking mod there.

Hi Joe,

I don't think the Infnium DD coils will perform better than the stock coil but I do know for certain terrain certain conditions the smaller DD coil and maybe even the larger infinium DD may excel over the stock coil, need more time not only from me but others to evaluate the coils.

However, Currently in the process of loaning my Infinium 5"x10" DD with modified shaft to a well known respected forum member, he is going to test the coil out in gold county and hopefully share these results with us by video, a treat for sure I myself are very excited to see the results.

Take care,
Paul

Look forward to checking out the video Paul.
I would like to see a smaller DD for the ATX. The 12" is a bit big for the places we are allow to go here in Queensland.
The price is a bit much for the 8" mono.
I'll keep an eye on this post and all the best with the project.
Cheers
Joe

Hi Cal,

That's good if you do use the smaller DD only it will be in shallow water, That's were I've used mine with the Recon.

On another note, Been working on a different shaft setup for ocean water hunting think I found the perfect setup. Can go with the coil cable running inside the shaft but will be limited with one coil only, Or go with the cable running outside the shaft like most detectors only will connect the coil cable to a pigtail connector on the outer housing/shaft entrance. With this setup with the coil cable outside can use any of the Infinium DD coils, Not quite completed just a few more bugs to work out but should have it ready for this weekend when my two other Infinium DD coils arrive :)

The 8" Recon mono coil in the pic is for picture purposes only, It will not work with the ATX but gives an idea what the finished shaft will look like.

Take care,
Paul (Ca)

Sweet looking setup Paul. I think you're onto something. A little lighter and more streamlined.
Looks nice,
