An Unscientific Depth Test

RLOH

Well-known member
I have wondered what the depth limits of the T2 were here in NE Ohio. I hunt in pretty mild soil and can most times hunt with the sens in the high 70's to around 80.Today I only had about an hour to hunt so I went to a ball field complex that occasionally gives up a wheat penny and maybe some 60's silver. I was digging almost every signal that pinpointed over 8 inches. First, this detector is very accurate with it's VDI numbers. Second, almost all of these signals had weak, broken audio. I found the numbers were more accurate than a crisp, loud signal. I found 10 coins at these depths and two were wheats. Both wheat pennies were 8 to 9 inches. I might be able to squeeze another inch or two of depth out of the T2 on pennies. Nine inches seems to be a depth that is somewhat accurate and that is great in my book. I have found pennies at ten inches with CZ's and Explorers. The T2 is more accurate than the CZ and almost equal to the Explorer here. Now for nickles and maybe gold. I got a nickle at nine inches today and that is one of the deepest nickles I have ever dug. The only detector that I have used that will find a nickle this deep with any accuracy is a Minelab Sovereign. I don't find many gold rings, but every one I have ever found has rang in as a nickle. The T2 will find deep nickles and I assume deep gold. I hunt in disc mode with disc at 10, sens around 80, and 2+ tones. This is a great detector, well balanced, easy to use, accurate, and deep. Just some thoughts for people considering this detector. R.L.

Rloh you are hunting with about the same settings I hunt with and these settings work for me. I dug an alu. beer can at 20 inches that was laying on its side. Thats the deepest I ever dug anything. After that I new the T2 was going to be just fine.
Here is a tip for pinpointing, I've posted this before but here it is again, If you get a weak or scratchy or iffy signal and are not sure if anything is there, all you have to do is pinpoint it. If there is something in the ground it will give you a good loud pinpoint. If you dig your hole and the signal goes a way, clean out any loose dirt and most likely the signal will reappear, usually in the loose dirt. You may even have to dig a couple more shovels full. On some targets I will lose the signal and if I spread out the dirt the signal will reappear. If you get a weak signal it may be a deep target or a very small target that is not deep. Hope this helps some of the hunters that are getting started, happy hunting.
