And another new E-Trac owner

Just got it today! I traded my Safari and paid some cash now I own an E-Trac. I can't wait to take it out. One question, can I use the same sunray x-1 probe that I had on my Safari? I assume so...

Some put it on top of the upper shaft just below the control box, I prefer it on the side of the battery compartment above the control box, seems to balance out the machine a little better.

In the end it's personal preference, it's easy to move so try them both and see which one you like.

Cheers,
Greg

I had the clip on the battery compartment of the Safari and it was fine but the E-trac has different angle so that is why I asked.
If I read Andy's book will I need to read the E-Trac manual?

In my opinion, you will get a lot more out of Andy's book than you will the manual. I went through them both but found myself referring to Andy's book alot.

Simple question
I have 2 lower shafts for the E-Trac one came with the MD and the other came with the 8" coil. One lower shaft is shorter than the other and I don't remember which came with which.

I believe the lower rod that is the longer one is probably the "tall man's" shaft. The shorter one is more than likely the standard length that would have come with the machine originally. I have one that is, end to end, 20" long and the other one is 21-1/2".

Thanks, I put the longer shaft on the 11" coil and the shorter on the 8" coil. I figure when I use the 8" coil I will be going slower and keep the swing closer to my feet ( I do wear shoes though).

I took the E-Trac out today for the first time. It was about 35 and fortunately the ground was not frozen. I went to a site I had hunted many times with the Safari where I found a lot of silver. No silver today and just 2 clad dimes, 2 mem. pennies, a nickle and a old brooch. The machine was very stable at auto+3, high trash, and on coin mode. It is a heavy machine for me and a I was fatigued after about 2 hours, though it has been 2 months since I was last out. I do have a question for you experienced users.
When I would get a broken high tone (12fe-43co) I would switch to quick mask and then get a solid high tone but the ID would change to something like 24fe-43co or sometimes 34fe-43co. I dug 2 of those targets and pulled out rusty nails. I assume the E-Trac was telling me that from the start.

Thanks

I have had the exact same results on rusty nails and it seems like it is worse when the ground is very damp. When I go to quick mask the cursor will fall to the bottom of the screen to like 35-42, I have dug to make sure however, there have been a few times there was a dime or wheat penny with the nail.
