And now it is our turn for a wildfire.

It is blazing hot here in Colorado and with that comes fires. There are 4 active fires in Colorado and New Mexico, and now that can be upped to 5. We have a fire on the West Side of Colorado Springs that just started around 12 Noon. Pam and I were headed into town and saw a black column of smoke a little north and west of the Springs. By the time we finished our business, about an hour, it had blown into a larger fire. Right now reports have the fire at about 600 acres. The fire is being called the Waldo Canyon Fire (was the Pyramid Mountain Fire). I can see the huge plume from where I live, while we are no where close to the fire, it is still too close for comfort. Cave of the Winds and Garden of the Gods are closed and mandatory evacuations for many have already taken place. Highway 24 has not closed yet but it will probably be closed soon. \

No cause has been reported as of yet. However, there has been an idiot that has been setting fires in and around Woodland Park (which is somewhat close to this current fire.) just for fun. They have not caught him yet. My hope is that this is not the work of the same person. Pure speculation on my part, but there was no weather in the area and as I said it is very hot and dry here. Even with that storm that hit when Elson was here, still not enough to keep our woodland moist. Thankfully we are not experiencing the high winds in that area that we have had over the last few days. However, fires have a tenancy to create their own weather, and this is what this fire is doing. It is becoming very windy in the fire area and that is not good. Makes for fuel to fan the fire to even more acreage.
