 Walking The Walk ~ The Cost of Discipleship

Active member
 "A disciple is a lifelong learner. When Christ calls us, we are to follow, wherever He leads and no matter the suffering involved, for it will involve suffering if for no other reason than it must involve sacrifice. In human terms the rewards for discipleship seem rather meager. But when the true dimension of life in Christ is discovered, we realize it's worth suffering for, no matter the cost her and now.
If someone were to ask you, "How loyal are you to Jesus?" how would you respond and why? What outward evidence do you give of your loyalty to Him? To be a disciple of Christ is no small thing. It requires a lot of conviction and stamina and a willingness to follow the Lord, regardless of the suffering involved. To be a disciple of Christ means to live by faith, to trust God even in the hardest of times
It means to be willing to die to self and live for the good of others and for the glory of God." Article, The Christian Life by Reinder Bruninsma, The Adult Bible Study Guide

SeniorSeeker ~ Seeking Treasure Here On Earth & In Heaven

Another good post, SeniorSeeker, and may we who are brothers and sisters of Christ, do that very thing! Die to self by not yielding to the weak flesh, but be strong Spriitually by following Jesus, with Whom we will endure and overcome all things! Bless the Lord, oh my soul and all that is within me and SeniorSeeker, too! Keep him safe from all harm and help him to be well and whole for serving You faithfully! God Bless! Betty

One of my favorite books has always been Bonhoeffer's Cost of Discipleship. There is a cost/price one chooses to pay when they decided to follow Jesus (for real). But, mighty small compared to the price HE paid....

Since being recently "saved", I have noticed that some people that have always been friends seem to be more "distant", and when I share my story of being in total desperation to being saved by the Grace of God, it is sometimes met with "coolness". We want to share our story, in hopes that we can help others, because we are so over-joyed with peace and salvation. I would say that a sacrifice would be losing old 'friends", but not allowing it to bother us. I am not bothered, knowing that one day, these 'friends" may also choose the path to Christ, through our prayers.......Then, they will come around again.

Hello Tesoronut! You may have lost some friends after being saved and, YES, we want to tell the whole world and witness for we are so full of the Lord's joy, but you are posting on the Christian Form and have lots of friends as your new family! Those who aren't listening to or are around you any more, will be when they are saved themselves in the mighty sweet Grace of a Loving God! The best Friend we have is JESUS and He sticketh closer than a brother, never to leave nor forsake you or His other children belonging to His Family Tree! God Bless! Betty

You are welcome! I don't know where you live, but Mike in Michigan has a forum hunt for all the members on here and this year it is in September, I think! I am unable to attend it in Michigan where he lives, but there will be many there who would enjoy meeting you, if you have never been to the CMD ones! You can PM Mike and he will be glad to inform you all about it, I am sure! If not....I will give me son a good spanking! :) God Bless! Betty
