Another Barber!

It was another beautiful day here so it was out detecting this afternoon. I brought my 15 year old son who is new to detecting and using a GTI2500. I took him to the older park where I found two barbers and a merc two days ago. Most of the clad here is gone and I did not want my son to get bored with few targets to dig, so I told him we would work this park for about an hour, then move on to another place where I knew targets would be more plentiful. He did not find any clad at all in the hour he was there.

I got an iffy signal about 20 minutes into the hunt. I had my son come over with the GTI and swing it over the target area. He said it bounced all over the place. There is so much iron here it is pathetic.

I dug down 6" and out pops this 1911D Barber dime! :twodetecting:

I also found two wheat's in the hour we were there.

We then went to an old church by my house where I have permission to hunt. There is also a Catholic school on site, so I knew there would be some clad for my son. I sent him over to the swing sets and he dug about 20 clad coins.

I have beat this place death with my Garrett. I still managed to pull an 1897 Indian Head from 7" down. My first one with the SE and the oldest coin I found at this church.

Nice looking Barber Dime. I take it that this Park of yours hasn't been pounded hard yet with an Explorer and I feel that you are going to find many more old Coins in that Park. And I would go over that Church again with the SE. You should pick up some older Coins there, and if I am right, more Coins than you think would have been left there. Good Luck and HH.

Those White's are nothing compared to the Explorer's and you will find this out the more you get out with your Explorer. When you told me this, it was like music to my ears. I am kind of excited for you also since I know exactly what most White's users leave behind. Many and Many nice old Coins that their detector cannot get signals on and I think you are going to do very well in your area. Here's a little advice. Find older Balldiamonds, Fairgrounds, Picnic Spots, Horse Tracks, and any other old place where people were in large numbers and go get that Silver. And if you don't do any type of Research yet, get started this winter before someone else comes along with an Explorer and gives you competition. The Best of Luck to you and HH.

That's great Yooper.
Nice to see you hunt with your son too!

I really like the probe. I am more adventurous at digging iffy signals that I used to be. Not as much time is wasted if it turns out to be something other than a coin. The probe really speeds up the process. I also like finding multiple targets in one hole, iron mixed in with the coin. The probe makes separation much easier.

The SE and the probe have basically opened up a whole new detecting world for me. Lovin' it! :drinking:

Hunting with my son really makes it more enjoyable. I do not have any detecting buddies around here, just one up North about 3 hours drive.

My son had a good time getting out in the fresh air and off that darn computer of his. Hopefully, he will stick with it.

He also found something that I will post. Made the family laugh for a bit.

The more I use the EXP. the more I see the value of the probe... I've never used one before because I found one about 5 years ago (A Whites)& you almost had to touch the coin before it would sound off. I gave it to my friend about 5 minutes after finding it. From all I've read though the Sunray is quite different...

There are several of us in the Ocala, Florida area using the Uniprobe Pocket Probe. We all find them to be very good pinpointers.
