Sunday afternoon. Regular beach with Ken and Riki.
As soon as I lowered the Sea Hunter Mark II coil the fun began. Out came a wallet. Took it to the police, they are just next to the beach. Think the policeman got a bit of a fright when I walked in, must remember to take off my hat and sunglasses and keep the metal detector and shovel pointed down low.
Nice man though, actually semi-retired, they don't wear a uniform but man the police boxes throughout Japan. So, he pulled everything out of the wallet and was trying to work out how many coins there were (also 1,000 Korean won), but he couldn't read some of them so went and got a bowl of water and tried to clean them.
I'm thinking, please, please let me get back to the beach before the sun sets, but kept my mouth shut and just went with the flow. Ken almost went to sleep.
A uniformed officer came out from the back room and luckily sped things up for us by confirming the correct denominations. Signed a document stating I don't want a reward but it is okay to give my contact info to the owner. And we are out of there. On the way back to the beach Ken said "We did the right thing." Great comment I thought.
Worked the tide line and got a few coins there. Had a look around some trees and got a big signal beside the trunk of one. Dug down and found a large cookie can. Naturally exciting to open. Had an envelope in it, wrapped in a plastic bag. Someone by the name of Takeshi wants to get married and must think the sea gods are listening.
Ken got the two rings near there too. And a small silver cross for me.
Dogs were running all over the place today. One lone windsurfer. And a few people walking.
As we were returning across the beach to the car I found a bunch of keys (Mercedes Benz) so back to the police again, minus the detectors and facial disguises.
Had a ball today!
