Another Garrett Ad (somewhat off topic)

I sometimes say too much. This is probably one of those times. I harken back to early Summer when Larry Simpson joined our forum. As I saw it, he went from having zero detecting experience to dealer, to starring in a TV show about detecting, to detecting expert in a matter of weeks. He then recruited members to his new forum from this site and we lost a few very good posters one of whom I really miss. I won't mention his name but he probably eats hagis.

Larry was recently pictured in a Garrett ad with the caption veteran coin hunter. It should not bother me but it did. Had it called him coin hunter, or detecting enthusiast I would not be writing this. I wrote to Garrett and expressed my opinion.

Yes, I have too much free time. Earlier in the Summer when Larry bashed my GTI 2500 I got pretty upset. I know some of his posts were deleted but some remain including a few that stated that anybody using a GTI 2500 or an Explorer was a laughing stock. He then started using a 2500 when he was given one and it suddenly became a much better machine. Bill and John and Steve and even Rosco all responded to my PMs at that time and basically said just let it go. Live and let live and I did. Until I saw that ad. Now I'm just venting. I'll be over it by Noon. Just wanted to let you, my detecting buddies, know how I feel.

Chris (Hoping it warms up.)

I personally have known Larry for about 20 years and I'm a member of his band. Larry has probably detected longer than you are old. You must be a very angry person as most of what I see you post is negative and running others down and questioning their finds. You really should try and get your facts straight before you look like a jackass to others.

CWILK has every right to express his opinion and what he feel like saying.
I'm thinking he could be right if you show such reaction and disdain for his opinion.

Myself I think Larry came in a whirlwind and trampled on this forum to take what wasn't what he worked for.
He may have lots of years in detecting which gives him what.
Probably lots of gentlemen on this forum have just as much if not more than the individual you mentioned..
Thruth hurts.!!!

If he is an experienced detector, then his first post here was deceitful.

No real anger from me. His actions either directly or indirectly caused trouble on a forum I like to visit and post on. Only case of it I ever witnessed on this forum. He left the forum worse than he found it. A metal detecting no-no.

I'm sure he's an ok fellow and he is a fine musician. I never questioned his finds. He did make a post disparaging the GTI 2500 and other high end machines when he had never tried them out. Some of his later posts were deleted of I simply can't find them. Here is the closest I could manage.

As for being negative, you're right. Was it mean spirited? Probably. Would I have lived had I not made my first post? Assuredly so.

Chris

I'll join you in your next foxhole too, Joel!

I see why he left find mall now. it's just a cess pool of humanity. guess I'll leave too. Bill Revis I didn't think you would allow slander in forums . what did he do ban all you guys? Sad

Looks like someone really is confused. I'm new to this forum, just about a month now, so I guess that makes me a veteran coin hunter too, woooo hooooo I'm soooooo happy. Joy for me, now I guess I can brag about my finds today with my 250. I found lots of junk and pop tops and 60 cents worth of modern coins. I am so happy that I am a veteran coin hunter too now, what will I be when I get my first silver, lol. Anyway, looks like I gotta agree with you cwilk, and one more thing I LOVE THIS FORUM!!!! I have gotten so many great tips from you all. I'm 36 yrs old and will NEVER know it all, and as far as my finds today, I was happy about them, because I got to share the day with my 12 year old and a friend of mine whom I GAVE my GTA 350 to. AND YES, WE HAD A WONDERFUL TIME. My son actually found more than me, he had 80 cents....I guess that makes the little runt a senior veteran....he was using his 150.......have a great day guys....going back out to finish the afternoon up swinging away..........

Wow cesspool of humanity? That is a leap from someone not geting along with your friend to calling everyone who posts/visits here part of the cesspool of humanity.

That is why I dropped his forum. He was a wolf in sheep clothing. I couldn't support such deception. He took inexperienced people, but had a lot of posts and made them super moderators. Nice people, but he was using them.

He said there would be few rules, but than he started deleting post and banning people from the forum that even slightly disagreed with him.

Just to add my two cents worth... I have only been on this forum for a short time. I have found everyone to be very helpful and supportive. Chris has taken the time to answer questions and give advice when asked. Uncle Willy has been helpful and put up with my inexperienced questions. I have found a bunch of good guys on the forum who share a common interest and have fun sharing their expertise and interesting finds.

Soconfused the name explains it.
Seeing that you only registered today and came to question the ideas of the members of this forum we will forgive you and welcome you as long as you keep to metal detecting comments.

It was a guy who came in false pretence. He than befriended people and made a forum of a bunch of "happy folks". He took some of our good Friends away. Found out, it was all a business move to get a large number of people so he could get backing for his forum. His past posts will convict him. It is a sore point and we should get back to MD'ing.

This is the friendliest forum of them all.

John is dead right here. I dont know if it matters to some but the fraternity shared here at this forum is beyond reproach and is, to be honset the reason I keep one Garrett at all times... I see it as my ticket into this great group.

I dont know this Larry SImpson character. Enough has been said here to make him suspect but here is the telling comment: "That is why I dropped his forum... but than he started deleting post and banning people from the forum that even slightly disagreed with him."
That's a despot.

I'm sure you will be really missed....bye, bye....really!(yeah right!).
I don't respond much but consider myself part(very small) of the "cesspool of humanity", and glad to be.Like many I enjoy this forum a lot, seems like a lot of different but good and interesting people who participate. Keep up the good posting, and sharing of finds and opinions.

soconfused what have i ever done to you to be classed as a part of the CESS POOL OF HUMANITY i"m quite upset about this & i feel an apology is due to all who were not involved in this past or present argument if you are man enough to admit your mistake in calling people who you don"t know names.
i personally think this forum has a great bunch of people on it who are help full to new & old detectorists alike & i feel Chris is a great part of this group of like minded people & makes a huge contribution to this forum Chris has never questioned any of my finds or made negative comments to any my posts nor any i"v seen. some times he has a rant but don't we all .
i don"t usually get involved in these types of posts but that comment left me feeling not to happy at the end of the day were all here to enjoy talking about what we all love doing ( detecting ) & not name calling or stiring trouble on the forum so please apologise for the name calling & post your views in a constructive way.
also i think we"d all be happy if you feel like posting your finds or asking a question or two.
happy hunting to you & all

Kiss my ass. The end.

Chris, this whole thread is new to me but your links make it real easy to add 2+2 and it doesn't equal an even sum.

So is this person a veteran hunter in the Garrett ad who has probably been detecting longer than we are old? Or is he a poor disabled guy who thought last May that he might like to try metal detecting if only he could afford a detector on his below poverty line budget?

I gotta say his original aw shucks post sure did pull at the old heart strings. Especially the part where he said "it might just save my life to try and get out more ,get some fresh air,and metal detect."

Just think Chris, our forum might have saved his life.

Kinda makes you feel all warm and fuzzy, doesn't it?

It sure reads that Larry had never held a detector in his hand until after May 7th, 2008. I remember reading that first post back then. I thought it was just a guy wanting some of us to just give him a detector. Any one 62 years old that doesn't have $212 for a detector has other things to think about. I will admit I checked his site out about 12 times. I didn't like it. I hated his membership drive the most. I have not been back. I even got an email from him about a week ago saying that I haven't been to the site for some time. So I just deleted his site from my favorites. :goodnight:
