It is slightly smaller in diameter than a U.S. half dollar and seems to be made of copper-bronze.It is very thick-almost twice as thick as a modern U.S. quarter.Anyone know?

>>>Copper 2 Paisa coin was struck by the British controled Indian State of Baroda. Minted from 1885 until 1890.
The coin pictures a cow's hoof and a scimitar. This unusual symbolism dates back to Damaji Gaikwar, a soldier who founded the state. In 1721 he was given the title of "Distinguished Swordsman", hence the sword. His father was a herdsman, hence the cow's hoof. Thus these became the symbols of Baroda.
In 1802, after years of fighting with nearby states Baroda signed an agreement with the British East India Company. The British promised to protect Baroda from attack by other states, in return the state was subordinated to the British, however it could continue to issue its own coins. By playing off one state against the other the British were able to gain control over most of India.
BARODA 2 PAISA (1885-1890) XF $3.00
