Another question, Iron Mask numbers?

Are the numbers for the IM the same on the XS, II, and SE? I notice a lor of people say to set it on 10. Is 10 the same on all three Explorers?

That is a LOT of masking I think, at least on the SE.

On the SE they will go all the way to 31 where as the older ones only went to 16, just a little more precise on the SE.

Think of the left side of the screen as a probability range, that is the more to the left the cursor goes, the more likely it is iron or an unsure ID. If the cursor stays to the far left then it is iron or mix of items or it is out of the ability of the detector's range to give a proper ID. One thing to keep in mind is the Explorer is not like any detector that you have ever used. I think the Sov may be the closest to it in terms of another unit being like it. Mike Moutrey uses -10 on his( you would have to get the equivalent for the SE) and has dug a lot of good stuff but most users that have used the Explorer for a while use less iron mask or none at all. If you make the Explorer a long term project in terms of learning, I think you can do very well with it but it is definitely not a turn on and go in terms of getting down the nuances of the audio sounds that it will give. If you are using ferrous sound, then iron will generally give a low tone but there can be some momentary chirps that accompany those low tones. It is the same with conduct except most that use conduct use at least a small amount of iron mask to just knock out nails. Learning the iron chirps from high conductive coins is key to getting better with the Explorer. I use audio 1 full time, I think it is called long audio on the SE. What is does is give a signal while the coil is over an item and until the coil clears the target. Most stick with normal audio as they don't like the extended tones over a target but it is easier for me in trashy areas to tell iron from very high conductive coins, all the lower conductive nonferrous items generally aren't any problem to distinguish from iron.
Hope this helps,
HH

A setting of 15 on the 1 and 2 is equal to 30 on the SE, 5 is 10 etc. Basically, Minelab almost doubled the stops on the iron mask setting on the SE, so you could be more precise in it's setting.
