Another question on Explorer II.....

KCK

New member
Some of you guys been at this a while. I'll admit I'm having better and more consistent finds with the Explorer II. I'll even admit better depth as well. For a test I took the explorer down what I call the path of knowledge.
This is a two by 30 foot path that I have taken every detector I've owned down. I would nearly swear that it is hunted out! For real!!!! But the the Explorer II made a liar out of me again, pulling not only a few extra cents out of the path, But deeper and older coins as well! That means theres no doubt about the Explorers capabilities, at least in my mind!I hunted the detector down the same path and hunted at the same speed and even in the same direction. The Explorer out shines them all!
Now I'm sold on my Explorer okay...but have any of you ever left your Explorer for another detector, or went back to an old favorite? What detector was it, and do you enjoy any other as your main detector after the Explorer Experience?

I switch back to the Sovereign for a while as I like the ease of use plus the ID of the 180 meter. I go back and forth between the Explorer and the Sovereign GT and try a few others too with the Fisher F-75 the one I am trying now, but it maybe going down the road as the Sovereign GT and the Explorer can do better in my area, but do like the weight of the F-75 over the Minelabs.

it just wouldn't work hard enough to keep me in the finds box. I ran it for about 6 months, loved the weight and egro's. It just wasn't my cup of tea. Thanks for your thoughts I appreciate them!

G'day KCK.
I've only recently started using the Explorer, but I have an X-Terra 30 and an Ace 250 that I still use. I took the Ace out today for a 5 hour hunt today and came back with just over $39, a couple of junk rings and a letter opener. I enjoy it's lightness, it's pinpointing abilities and the way it can get in real close to metal objects like no other detector that I know. It has adequate discrimination but an ordinary audio system.
The X-Terra 30 on the other hand, has a very good audio system, that although a different to the Explorer, I would put in on a par with it. So far I find that the Explorer's discrimination and depth metre jumps around a lot, and I would (at the moment at least) consider it to be no better than the X-Terra's discrimination. I'll purchase the wide scan coil for the X-Terra, which should put in in the same ball park with the Explorer for depth. The X-Terra also has a faster recovery speed.
Some will disagree with what I've said, but that is how I see things at the moment. More experience on the Explorer may change my view on this down the track.

I go over new sites that I have'nt hunted first with the sovereign
because of the reasons Rick gave. If it shows any promise, I'll go
back over them with the explorer.

I have had C&G Technology (what ever they are/were, Fisher, and Whites detectors over the last 30+ years. My first Minelab was the Excalibur 1000, In just taking it out of the box and into my back yard just to experiment, I found two Indian Heads and a buffalo in a matter of minutes. I was so impressed by this because I have done my yard every year for 30+ years and never imagined I'd find that much more in so little time. I wondered what the equivalent in a land detector would do.. One week later, I ordered the Explorer II. Although I don't know it very well yet, I'm sold on MineLab and the Explorer.

The Minelab Muskateer has, without a doubt, found me coins that all my other detectors missed. But my Explorer is always my main weapon of choice. I also use my DFX from time to time too and it has found some wonderful finds too. But all nice finds are not often. I just muddle on in my fun hobby.
