Another ring and a buck in cladd

Got out early , to beat the heat, was doing some real sergical digging so as not to damage the grass, dug 31 targets 47% coins of that 16% quarters and the quarters were all turned a dark green no fresh ones, this tells me this spot has not been gone over for a long time or the other detectors were not as deep because i pulled most of the quarters from below 6" my settings on the GT ar sensitivitybetween 2:00 and three oclock disq at 9:00 oclock Iron mask then switch into pinpoint , i used the pinpont when the pistol probe would not make a sound I make a slit in the grass 4" long punch the wilcox trowel down and pry the grass up then dig down with my tongs and the flattend long sqrewdriver and put the dirt into the bowl then when the target is out i fill the hole and make sure i pluck some grass to put in as a fertilizer then carfully close it back together and you could not tell were i was thats why i bring two stakes and line them up with a compass and thy keep me going in a line then i just move them over and keep going i have covered 1/20 th of this field and recovered 1 ring a junk ring but hey its showing that rings are being lost and if they keep coming out in this % that means thear is 18 more rings to go digging all tabs can slaw and aluminum wire no one has bothered me even thou the grounds keepers were out on thear tractors , thats why I DO NOT DIGG PLUGS they kill the grass and i would be out I have a picture of my best digging tools for this spot the lesh knife cuts the slit and no I am not woried about damaging the Item i can tell how deep the targets are then the wilcox pries up the sodd then the tongs pull the dirt out and put into the bowl and in all this I use the pistol probe to let me know when Im getting close

Certainly sounds an encouraging site, plenty of evidence of people losing stuff - depth of finds to suggest you have a free run on anything below 6 inches and probably a good few targets that will be closer to the surface and missed and as you quite rightly say, it may not have even been detected before.

Nice finds Gunnar! Another ring to add to the collection! How can you tell how deep the targets are? See, I have hearing loss so that is something I really can't distinguish. ONLY if the audio is very faint then I can generalize that it is going to be a deeper target. Like the 1917 penny I found the other day, I generalized based on the reading and the faint audio (my volume is all the way up on the GT and I adjust the headphone volume) it gave me that it was down pretty deep (approx 8 inches ) other then that, I don't have a clue. That is awesome that you can tell the approx depth on targets.

It sounds like you found a sweet area to detect. With your "go-getter" attitude, I have a feeling you will be posting the other 18 rings you speak of.

That pistol probe is a great probe but for me it absolutely drove my detector nuts (me too) so I am looking into the sun ray S-1 probe as I think that will help me speed up the recovery. I just have to figure out if this probe will work with my setup.

I think the S1 is a good probe you just switch it on and no detector problems like you can get with the pistol probe , i just hold the detector away and it calms down but the s-1 can get 3" on coins thats good for me its the added wight by the time you have headphones probe and meter why not put me in a Iron maden i fell so much more free , I can tell by the faint ness and size of the beep i also have a brass probe , regarding the other 18 rings , thats in theory but somtimes that does not pan out but i bet at least 2 or three really good ones i tried using a L.E.D light but you can not see it good unless its pointing up and down on the end of the shaft and it tells you far less

I always hip mount my control box so all that I have hooked to the shaft is the meter so my setup is pretty light. I understand the 18 rings are in theory.... however, there is only one way to find out

Hey Gunnar its great your trying different settings and adjustments and doing your learning in the field on actual targets. Your recovery method is to be commended and should reward you with many return visits to parks and such. Well done

I tried hipmounting , and the thing hung funny I dont think i was doing it right , but you are right with the hip mount , a probe and meter would be just fine, in fact preferable.

I dont care for hipmounting myself, but chestmounting is a great option.
