Another weird, but cool relic! Any ideas?

Found this a couple weeks ago at an old house site. I thought it was a piece of pipe initially as it was in the ground on an angle and all I saw was the end. It cleaned up very nice with a brass brush and I believe that it's pewter. The designs on it are very detailed and elegant. The inside of the cone is threaded.

Also found this lovely partial skeleton key - very hefty and a lovely patina.

Any ideas what the pewter item was for?

Thanks, Erik

It looks to me like the handle from a tiered serving platter. The pieces between the platters would screw into one another and up into the handle.

I think that is it.

Great Find. Are you sure it's pewter? Looks in real nice shape for pewter. Usually it comes out of the ground brittle. From the picture it looks Nickle or Rhodium plated. Nice find, and if it's pewter, it probably dates back another 100 years over nickle plated. Nickle is usually 1900's (give or take) and pewter is generally early 1800's and older. One of a kind find. Check out candle snuffer. Can't see the end of it but if its concave and deep enuff for a candle i'll
bet thats what it is. Nice find!!!

I'm not really sure what metal it's made of - it had a whitish patina almost like what happens to lead. Maybe it's nickle - I'm not sure what that looks like coming out of the ground - I only know what early nickels look like when they come out of the ground around here and they are pretty corroded. Thanks for any additional info.
