Any ACE tips/tweaks?

OK, winter is pretty much here now and the ground is like cement. So it's reading/research time for me. Do you know of any tips/tweaks/enhancements for the ACE 250? I have the 9x12 coil and rain cover. I normaly run one bar below max sens.

Hi,
I have also an ACE 250 .
Does the 9" x !2 " coil have any noticeable difference in depht
compared to the stock coil ?

Practice. Lay out some cardboard on a nonmetallic floor and have someone place items under it, or close your eyes and toss em under.
Then practcie detecting them through the cardboard and get to know how your detector responds. Use all sorts of items from pulltabs to gold rings.

For everything else, dont worry. The Ace is dead easy to use. Just do what Uncle Willy says.

There's a few little tricks to the Ace. A good set of ears is probably the most important thing. Listening for the width of the tone is useful. Pinpointing off the 12 o'clock position and listen to how long the signal fades gives you the size of an object if deeper than 2in. Coins on the surface give off their own distinct sharp sound. Detuning the pinpoint (Double hitting it) can aid significantly in locating targets.
If you have the sniper coil, you can ping targets that are just under an inch away from metal poles if you max out the sensitivity, hold in the pinpoint button and tilt the coil ever so slightly away from the pole. You can also detect coins directly under the metal of play equipment by holding in the pinpoint button. You have no discrimination, but you don't pick up the metal pole either.
Pull tabs always give themselves up after 6 passes of the coil in that they will always cause the cursor to bounce by then. turn your coil through 90 degrees if you seem to be pinpointing a piece of pipe. A second target under the coil will cause that effect.
Experiment and discover what else it can do.
Mick Evans.

I didn't think of the pin point under metal play ground structures, thanks. It's quite fun to pick up the dollar or two dollar coins. My ACE with 9x2 will stay as my city detector but I think that I'm going to get a Tejon for fur trade posts, out in the boonies.
