Any beginning tips for a first time E-trac user.

I have used the Explorer on and off since they came out and had dug coins down to 10" with it. Any advise, hints, tips, etc for first starting out with the E-trac? I have Andy's book and have begun reading it, been watching videos wherever I can, but could use all the help I can get to get started. Thanks

Reading Andy's book is the best advice I could give you, but one more thing you will need to do is to edit out the small area top right on the screen. This area if not removed will discriminate out large silver coins. Happy Hunting.

If you have not already done so...i would suggest downloading the ETRAC EMULATOR as well as the owners manual. That
should give you a headstart as you are waiting for the REAL MCCOY to arrive...,,

dont be scared to use discrimination in trash.
try to run a manuel sense of 23 or more if you can.
in trashy sites go at a snails speed.
try to get to were you can run in long tones or smooth.
deep on doesnt make it go any deeper it just makes deep targets read a little better when your in a trash free site.
fast on helps when your in trashy sites.
take your time and it will find things colocated with iron like no other detector ever has.

Don't be afraid to run in Auto sensitivity when first starting out. You won't miss too much and it will make the learning curve a little smoother. As soon as you get the hang of what the machine is telling you then go to Manual and start pushing it. You can't go wrong using the relic pattern with ferrous 2 tones. Pretty much eliminates most of the high tone iron falsing. If you have a 5" or 6" coil you can push the sensitivity all the way up to 30 in just about any ground condition and the depth will amaze you! I love doing this in trash infested areas and picking out the goodies everyone else leaves behind but like rbholt80 said you will have to slow way down. Best of luck Dan!

My wrists were sore for the first few times out. I think I was used to the handle angle on the Explorers.

Try to get your threshold tone as close to what you have on your Explorer.

If you ran in digital, make yourself a cross-reference of the numbers from Explorer to ETrac, and carry it with you for quick check.

Several things which will be of the greatest assistance to you and any other person new to this detector

1) download the etrac emulator it allows you to play around with settings with an etrac simulator great for getting to know your machine.

2) Andy Sabisch explorer & Etrac handbook

3) minelab.com website has patterns you can download directly using the etrac exchange software

4) joan Allens metal detector in the UK have an instructional DVD on the Etrac

5) Read the manual over and over get out and practice and practise.

it takes a little learning so dig all good repeatable targets regardless of the screen Fe CO numbers remember the tones you will soon educate your ears to what the machines tones are telling you

I'm also new to the Etrac,, The best advice I can say is open the Fe# down to 27 as these will vary.. But the co # is what you want to pay close attention to.. If they vary only a couple # dig, if the kind of go all over with it jumping back around the 11- 12-13 line dig it.
