Any helpful hints for the beach?

SilverBear

New member
I will be going to Pismo Beach this weekend and I was wondering if anyone had their own custom settings they use for beaches that they wouldn't mind sharing with me. If not I will end up using the custom beach setting and dig every target. Any other helpful hints would be very much appreciated! Thanks everyone!

Hi SilverBear - The following is from "The Minelab Explorer & E-Trac Handbook" written by Andy Sabisch, so I cannot take credit for it. It has worked great for me at various beaches in North & South Carolina. Thought it would be a good starting point for your first beach hunt. I also use the 15X12 SEF coil for my beach hunts to cover more ground, but the stock 11" Pro Coil will work great. Good luck. Looking forward to seeing your finds.

I use a pattern that was developed by Joe DeMarco that he developed for use on New Jersey beaches. The pattern ensures that no gold jewelry or coins will be missed, while rejecting a lot of the unwanted trash found on the beach.

Reject FE 08 up all the way out to CO 40 and reject FE 24 down all the way out to CO 50.

Use the following settings:

Threshold Level = 30
Volume Limit = 30
Volume Gain = 28
Response = Smooth or Pitch Hold
No. of Tones = Multi***
Sounds = Conduct***
Variability = 30
Limits = 30
Auto or Manual = Auto
Manual Level = Varies, usually 22 Max
Auto Level = A**
Recovery Deep = On
Recovery Fast = Off*
Trash Density = Low*
Ground = Difficult / Neutral****
Pinpoint Mode = Normal

* If hunting in high trash, try selecting FAST = ON and / or selecting TRASH DENSITY = HIGH to pick out good targets from amongst the trash.

** If conditions allow, push the Auto setting to + 3 to get a tad more detection depth while retaining the stability afforded by Auto on the E-Trac.

*** The audio options selected are a combination of personal preferences and the conditions of the site you are searching. Many users are reporting that selecting the 4-tone audio preforms better than multi. Try switching between 4-tone & Multi audio and then between Ferrous & Conductive sounds. Beaches with high concentrations of black sand may require a change to your settings. If your primary settings do not produce the results you are accustomed to, make some "on-the-spot" changes and save them for use in the future.

**** Choosing the correct Ground setting will depend on the specific conditions at the site you are searching. Try switching between the two and see which produces more stable operation and a higher sensitivity level when in AUTO. It can actually change on the same beach depending on the conditions beneath the coil. Below "20", opt for Difficult.
