Any ideas about this small brass stud?!

Hello all. I acquired this odd little stud years ago at the Richmond, Va. relic show. I've been told it's a blue jean stud from the 1950's all the way to being a Mississippi or Texas unit saddle stud - and everything else in between - i've seen only a couple of others like it over the years, so there must not be too many of them around. The provenance says it was recovered in the Mechanicsville, Va. area. It's 16mm at it's widest point, and is solid brass. It's obviously been in the ground a long time. Any i.d. help would be appreciated, and would finally put to rest as to what this little starred brass stud really is! Thanks, and good luck!

interesting piece, I would think if off of blue jeans there would be more found. looking at the back I would think used on leather, could be a reenacting piece
