Any one detecting at over 50?

Starting to feel a little wear from my younger days but...Still feel real good at 65. Heck at 50 I was still running marathons. A well known fact...Your body will remember in your old age how you treated it in your younger days.

Happy Birthday!! I'll be 50 in about 3 years. Turn 47 on Nov. 20th. Glad to hear so many of you are out at your ages. Lots of collective knowledge out there. Makes me glad to know that I'll still be doing it for many years to come. Maybe by the time I reach 100 I'll get the hang of it!
Joel.

Are you kidding!!! I am 66, retired and go out every day of the week for at least 5 hours, except in Summer when the heat is unbearable. So......you have at least 16 years to catch up!

A late birthday greetings David, I trust you had a great day. I am 73, love the Western Australian Goldfields and swing the coil every day during the Aussie winters.
You have a long way to go and a lot to look forward to !!
Best wishes, Brian

Happy Birthday Dave :clapping:. I'm confused was I suppose to quit when I turned 50. If so I goofed because I didn't quit at 50 an I'll be 62 in mid November and I'm still detecting and in fact I am still riding a 1300CC road bike cruiser Motorcycle that weighs over 700lbs.

Happy birthday kiddo, I'm 67. I bought my X-terra 70 when I retired at 65 and have been happily swinging ever since.

My Mom has been detecting for at least 15 years now. She's 73 and detects with me at least one or two days every week. I think this summer it's actually helped her to recover from hip and foot surgeries that she's had in the last two years. I hope I'm still detecting at 73!

Wow what a response! All good positive responses! Thanks so much! I knew I was not going to quit but I did need some feedback. Some great advice here above. Thank you very much for the wonderful encouragement, it DOES help me! It is great when we think of others, not only about ourselves, and help other people.

Also this is very, very true Danno:
I turned 50 this July just gone. I think 50 these days is like 30 used to be in our grandparents day. Still only feel like I'm 20 in the head and the body aint too bad. Won't be giving in to a number. I plan to go till I'm 100. Exercise will help us all get there and detecting is part of that. A fellow I know turned 65 recently and bought a Sea Kayak as a present to himself. He paddles it around 10+ kilometres every day. Age is a state of mind. Cheers, Danno

So much good advice it is hard to thank everyone individually, but you know who you are and it IS appreciated! Everyone can learn by what is written above.

P.S. I am not perfect but have a habit of doing so. So I try to always do things right, as a good job.

Probably a lot more people over 50 than under 50 detecting. Got my 27 year old son in law interested, but most of the young guys don't figure out how much fun it is until they're older. I'm 55 and have been going hard at this since I was 15. Through football, track, bass fishing, marriage, kids, a career and the like, detecting has always been there for me. Don't know how anyone can live without it.

Belated Happy Birthday to you. I hope you have many more years of detecting ahead of you. I just started swinging a detector two months ago and turned 66 three weeks ago.
I had my knees replaced two years ago and you would probably get a laugh from my digging technique, kind of like a giraffe drinking water....

I now think I am the youngest one on here at 33. I have learned alot from all yall . Yall have taught me well.

and then the people that don't even belong to one.
It's all about having fun no matter what you swing,
or how old you are.

Happy Hunting
Bruce

Here's one for you, kiddo. Not only am I 63 (turning 64 on Christmas Day)...but I'm a woman who is new to this 'sport.' Top it off with the fact that I'm still a newbie detectorist. It's a good thing that I enjoy learning new things!

Will be 58 in a couple of months. Look forward to going out as much as I can. I started to get exercise and found it to be a lot more relaxing. I don't think about anything else with a detector in my hand.
Hope to have a lot of years left to keep diggin them holes.

Tom

I started at 57 and plan to stop when I kick that last clump of dirt, am in a great MD club and we have plentry of old farts over 58!

My word boy! Fifty is way too young to be md! At that age, you should still be home taking care of Mama.

Happy birthday anyway.

Dave

I am 56 and still detecting.
Little hard on my knees but I am still going to continue and teach my little grandson the hobby.
