Any seasoned F-75 users wanna share some hints, tips or advise ?

I have a F-75 on the way and was wondering what to expect performance wise. I haven't used a Fisher in along time. Thanks.

Dan:

Read the instruction manual several times........ Try the preset at first. get the feel of the machine.

First thing go to the manual and get the factory reset procedure figured out. This will save you a lot of thinking your machine is broken, if you are like most you will want to play around with the settings and that is okay, but you can get some funky stuff setup and your detector will seem like it is not working the way it should.

Setting notches and not know how is a sure way of getting things messed up if you don't understand what is going on and how it works.

Messed up is not a problem just do a factory reset and you are good to go. Even for the guys that know these machines, I think it is easier to do a factory reset than try to unset a bunch of notches.

Now on to another item, ground balancing study up on that and go to your yard and try it a few times. Once you get the idea, then I would suggest going to the all metal side of your settings and go down to manual ground balance and set that number kind of low like for me in the 50's and then go back to the disc side and do your standard Ground grab ground balance. The reason for that the factory reset for GB is kind of high and when you try to find a clean spot of ground to ground balance the machine will sound off to the ground. When starting off with a low GB number the machine will not sound off on the ground. This is not a must do, just helps me get started without bobbing around the area trying ground grab and get the numbers to drop and then go find a clean spot of ground to do the actual ground balance.

Good luck,

Ron in WV

The first few trips out dig everything with a repeatable number and make a mental note of the numbers you see and the sound the F75 makes. Numbers may bounce several numbers and deep targets will bounce more but the tones will stay constant. You will learn what all that means and the more time you put into the F75, the more you and it will become one. You will find goodies the first time out but it will take many hours to become proficient so do not give up!

Running in the factory modes for several hours and digging a variety of targets and learning how (its easy) to do a factory reset are probably the most important things starting off....besides, of course, getting familiar with the manual. If you are not familiar with the F series detectors, do keep in mind that they have a very rapid target response and if starting out in a trashy location all the hits can be kind of overwhelming. I recommend hitting a little cleaner area your first couple of hunts. Good luck, it really is a awesome detector. HH jim tn

Dan ,
I think the 75 will not like your dirt much--- it seems to struggle in hard dry alkaline environments. I'm not saying it won't work but suggesting you run lower sensitivities and avoid JE or BP modes until you become familiar with it and ground balance often , especially if you find the ground balancing in the upper 80 and low 90s. You may be out in the Permian basin far enough to avoid the elemental iron in the soil but the closer to the mountains to the West you get the more problem it creates with falsing. Expect a Deus like machine with less descriptive tones---I hope you don't regret dumping your etrac. If you're hunting a lot of sites with old iron trash you will love it,,,modern trash not so much.

Theory-------I am beginning to think a repeatable number within 8" of deep means the object is Roundish = Coin or token or bottle cap or ring.

Numbers moving around high to low are irregular shaped objects or mixture of different metals.

Perfect 88 was a Kennedy 50 cent piece or a watch face

Quarter and silver rings = 83 to 85

Dimes and copper pennies = 68 to 76

Zincs 60

Nickels 29-30

Everyone has covered the basics here but for me this was a big one. KISS (keep it simple / stable). On your first few hunts/ weeks take the big coil off and use the small (5 in) one then use these settings after a good ground balance. DE mode, Disc 6, Sense 25 to 35 max. You will not be digging the deep stuff with these settings but will be able to learn the things the 75 is telling you and then you can turn things up and really start making it do what it is intended to do. That is give you every signal under the coil with a response time that is faster than the disc between your ear and that to most in the beginning with the 75 this is very overwhelming and they can not understand what it is telling them based on what they have used in the past or thinking turning it up is a good thing. After all this go to AM. I don't want you to think I have ignored you have been a registered member here for 10 years and I respect that but I am trying to give the best advice I can to a new 75 user.

Thanks GO VA,

I tried doing a search on the F-75 and couldn't get a hit here on Findmall in the archives, which I know there must be a ton of stuff discussed here. So, I felt like an idiot having to ask to get some advise on getting started. I appreciate you taking your time to respond.

Sprchng, the ground here is rather mild, the soil is aklaline, but, is not very mineralized where I'm at. Now, a few mile south and west, that's a different story, the ground starts to get pretty hot. Thank you for the heads up on using it mineralized soil.

Hey Jim, I ran into that with the Deus, it sounded like a machine gun with every sweep. Watching a few video's, it looks like it could keep up with the Deus in the trash. I'll just turn the sensitivity down and use the small coil in the trash.

I never thought about doing a reset as soon as I get the machine, it is used and that would be a easy way to start from scratch. Thank you.

No problem will help any way I can. This is a good thing to read that I started with a few years back but still useful.

Basic settings are great, tweaking them can do amazing things, tons of really technical info out there that will make your jaw drop if you understand and use them.
I do, takes some practice but but they have worked for me in heavy iron, heavy trash and more.
Just gotta know where to look.

Keep in mind setting info that pertains to the F70/F75/T2 platforms usually transfers between all of them.

When was the latest version released ? After reading up on the F75, its seems to have morphed a few times. The one I have coming is a 12 14 serial number , thanks again.

The units made after 11/1/15 have the latest software and features. So will your unit.

I myself like running it in multi tone , or delta pitch for coin shooting copper pennies dimes and quarters, 50 cents and dollars. The higher the pitch the bigger the coin. If you like Nichols 3 or 4 tone works good because the tone is high on Nichols like a dime or quarter.
