any tips or tricks for the screen? :detecting:

Hello everyone, I just joined the forum a few days ago and had my first hunt with my etrac yesterday. I used an ace 250 for a while and upgraded to the etrac. I am loving it! After using the ace for so long I became dependant on the visual aid. Which brings me to the only problem I have with the etrac. The sun is terrible to the screen. Anyone have any tips or adjustment to make the screen visible in the sun? The background light does not help. I hit a target and find myself doing a weird looking dance, spinning in a circle trying to adjust the sun where I can see my screen. lol :hot: Is there anything I can do or am I just going to have to learn and live with it? Thanks for any pointers you can give.

Wearing polarized sun glasses by chance?

I've heard people buying 'anti-glare' easy peel film for iPhones or PDA's and placing it on there.
I think this works but as soon as put the control box cover on, the sun reflects off that as well.

Gaz.

You have figured it out already. Turn 90 to 180 degrees from the sun until you can see it. I find myself glancing at the screen once in awhile but the tones lead me to dig or not dig more often.

That screen glare is something that has given us all problems (fits) from day one on all the Explorers/Etrac.---It is better on the Etrac (IMO) but still evident & still definitely needs improvement on any upcoming model.----I ended up putting transparent anti glare "stick ons" applied to the face screen itself.---When you take it off, it comes off perfectly (no damage to the screen or residue what-so-ever left on the screen).-----The only problem is though as one gentleman already mentioned---when you put a control box cover on, then you (again) have a glare problem-- from the cover itself.----You DEFINITELY do want a cover to protect that expensive control box.----So what I have done is applied one of those "stick ons" to the window of the cover also.---You can buy these in packs at
Staples stores.----This seems to work better than anything I have tried & believe me, I have tried about everything (and adjustments) over the years.-----I can't even take credit for this--I learned it from jbow (thank you Julien)!-----I tried polarized sun glasses & hated them--couldn't see the stinkin faceplate! ----Hope all this helps someone.-----Email or call Minelab & tell them we want that "glare" taken care of on the next model!!!!--------Side note: Some of these box covers when installed have wrinkles on the window.---If you can somehow get those wrinkles out OR get a tight fitting cover--that alone is going to help you TREMENDOUSLY with the glare problem.---------Regards, Del

I have been using the Explorers and E-trac for almost a decade now. You just learn to live with it i guess. As you learn to hunt deepies, you will be circling the target from different direction anyways, so you will get used to the dance and you will learn to hunt much more by sound than with the meter over time so it will be more of a non-issue then also.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for all the replies. I am going to staples and pick up some of those anti glare stick ems. That seems like a good idea. I also like the glasses idea so, I may look into those as well. I cant wait until I do get use to the tones. Right now, I am digging everything so, thats a lot of tones to learn! lol I guess my next step will be to build a good pattern. Thanks for the help everyone.
