Hi all,
New detectorist here! Been wanting one all my life and finally got the time to get involved. I got laid off the first part of November so I've taken some time to enjoy life a little instead of the stress of IT Management... I found a smoking deal on Craigslist for a brand new never opened 505 for 320.00, I figured after a little research this would be a good starting detector, so I drove to Oakland and made the deal...

I read the manual, did some research read the FAQ here and watched 100's of YouTube vids and the very first time I turned the detector on at a park around the corner from my house I found a penny with the VERY first signal! I took this as a great omen but it has been a curse, I have found so many dang pennies I'm sick of em!! HAHAHA no wheaties mind you :(

Oldest coin to date is a mid 1800's Chinese bronze coin I found in Rocklin. Everything else is bloody clad, found a 1965 quarter today at William Land Park, one year off from silver. So is there anyone here in the Sacramento area swinging any of the X-Terra's? I would really like to get out with someone.

GREAT forum here, everyone is really helpful and encouraging many thanks from a total NOOB!!!

Gaming tokens are good finds. Keep hunting you will eventually find the silver.

Howdy Joe,

That would be McCellan, i am in Antelops so it's really close. In doing my research Mather is much older, originally called Mills Field in 1918... looking at Google Earth there looks to be some places there to try... man im really on a quest for silver, just trying to get that first one to break the ice ya know... I am REALLY enjoying this hobby and have found ALL kinds of stuff... My wife calls my detector my girlfriend LOL.....

Hows things in Jackson? Good history there, old downtown should have some places, how has your luck been??? What type of detector do you use??

Mark

I hunted McCellan a few times myself with a X70 and a Explorer 2....
I was surprised the finds weren't that spectacular. One silver dime. And that was it.
I'll be looking for you.......
