my friend found this with his explorer. it says LUD XVI on the front, which sorta dates it, but i can't find a picture of it anywhere. it's way smaller than a dime and very thin - got a nail driven through it like it was used as a button. any ideas?

I guessed button cause of the shape of the "shank". (the nail is bent in a circle on the back.) it's tiny, about the size of a regular shirt button. anybody's guess as to the metal it's made of. i kinda doubt silver, since it's more bronze colored. ??? hh.

Just an FYI
On French coins with King Louis XVI (b1765-d1793) - his bust is usually circled with the Latin legend LUD-XVI-D-G FR-ET-NAV-REX which translates to Louis XVI, King of France and Navarre.
