Anybody trying conductive sounds or are you all in Ferrous?

Just curious. I know it's been hashed a million times and I'm not concerned which one is better. I am just curious if anyone is actually hunting in conductive and what your results are.

I was out for a while this AM before the rain started and I was rehunting a site that I've hunted 4 times prior to this. Just a small yard. Got the idea of closing the iron mask to 22 and going to conductive just for something different and because most of us old timers started out that way.
Slowed way down and started getting signals, some choppy and some not so bad. Dug a few of those not so bad and pulled some wheats to my surprise.
I guess its all what one prefers. The settings are there to use for a reason. Again, its what one prefers.

I finally got me SE back yesterday and just got to try it out today. I only had 45 minutes but did a little experimenting with iron mask as well. I closed it down to 24 or so. It seemed the signals got more solid. With IM at 30 it just seemed to be too much confusion between all the different signals...none of them really solid. When I backed it off some the signals seemed to be more soild. I'm sure a smaller coil would have been great to clear up the signals as they were close and ran together. This is going to be fun trying many different combinations of settings to see what works in different places. I may even go "old school" and try iron mask off and hunt in smart find and conductive sounds as I did when I was learning the ex2.

Are you referring to a specific Explorer Model or any of them Bryce? I have the Explorer XS and literally kick butt with it and 99% of the time I am running in Conduct Tones. I took 2nd this year in my club. Let's just say that I had a good year for finds but you will have to wait and watch for my post of all the Coin and Relic Finds I had this year. I am working on the totals and trying to figure out a Digital Camera at the moment. Good Luck and HH to you Bryce!:detecting:

You have made some very nice finds. Between you and Mrchile...there are tons neat pictures and finds. I was just wondering about the conductive sounds settings on the SE. It seems that I have never seen anyone who posts there settings state they hunt in conductive. It's always ferrous.

Thanks Bryce. I think MrChile has a little more LOOT than I could possibly ever dream of having the lucky little Pirate. I like running in Conduct and I have tried Ferrous Tones but it would take some getting use to hearing everything in the ground. I run in Iron Mask -8 and that is bad enough. I hear all the Conductive Items in the ground along with all the Iron Nulls. In Trash, it almost drives a person nuts but I have learned to just listen and wait for those certain tones and Id's that I am looking for. I am sure that you are going to do well with that Explorer SE of yours and I look forward to reading and hopefully seeing your great finds when ever you get out and post. Good Luck and HH.

One of the reasons to run Ferrous tone is if you like to run with a more open pattern. The way the iron which reads on the very top would read hight tone as a coin would in conductivity where as in ferrous it will be a low tone. Now with running ferrous tones and a open pattern everything on the very right of the screen would be high tone including a rusty bottle caps that read on the bottom right. Now with this the case it is very easy to tell a rusty bottle cap versa a coin as it may sound the same, but once you see the digital number or crosshairs low you know it is trash. Now if I hear a high tone and the numbers or crosshairs are high I know it is one I want to check out.
Now being nails and coins both read top of the screen I like to run as open as I can so a coin next to a nail can be heard is why I like to run ferrous tones.
Another tip I tell many that works good is to run your patterns, or copy iron mask in one of your patterns and set your iron mask open all the way. Now if you get a iffy signal in your pattern you can switch to iron mask and hear everything close to this target and it also give you a better signal on your target you are trying to ID.
