Anybody using a Treasur Mate

I was wondering if anybody has had any experience using a Treasure Mate pinpointer, they have a lifetime warranty. I have been looking for a pinpointer and was wondering if they were any good.

Tom,
The Treasure Mate is OK, touchy ground balance, 1" on
quarters, 1/2" on dimes.
I didn't find it acceptable for nugget hunting, but
OK for coins, jewelry.
If you looking for nuggets, Falcon is much better.
good luck
Ken

Thanks Ken
Most of the hunting I do is coins and jewerly, I don't get out to the nugget fields anymore since I sold my jeep <img src="/metal/html/cry.gif" border=0 width=40 height=15 alt=":cry"> How is the quality of the treasure mate, is it easy to use. Do you have to you ground balance it everytime you use it, and how long does it take to use it from the time you turn it on. TB

The SunRay probes made for several detectors that use the curcuity of the detector, so the sound comes right though your headphones and have great depth. The other one I find that works good with any detector and that is the Uniprobe as this one will go deep also. This one is made two ways, one is built with headphones and the other is hand held, both are excellent.
I have the Sunrays on my Explorer and my Elite plus my wife has one on her MXT and the Uniprobe with the built in headphone I have for any other detector I use. I tried many others and these are the ones I find work the best.

The Sunray would be nice on my Explorer XS, I have looked at them. The problem that I have is that sometimes I use a modified Whites IDX Pro for quick sweeps. I like and use both machines that is why I was lookin for a stand alone pinpointer, but the way it is looking right now I might get the X-1 for my XS.

Tom,
The Invader XL-1 Target Probe is compatible with your IDX PRO. You can check our website for more info. Scroll the menu on the left until you come to the White's accessories.

Tom,
The best way to use the Treasure Mate is to turn it
on and let it stablize for a few minutes before you
try to ground balance or peak the sensitivity.
Once warmed up it works OK, but you have to keep
ground balancing it as the soil changes, which can
be a pain.
I had two, sold them, both and bought a Falcon, which
is overkill for coins, but great for nuggets.
For coins, I use a Wizard, which is also used to find lead shot in birds after hunting and nails in studs. It will detect a coin at 2", which is good enough for me.
For about $20.00, it's worth trying one.
I haven't been impressed by any of the regular probes
in use, especially for the price they're asking.

Well I ordered the Treasure Mate and received it via the brown boys today. My first impression is it is very well built, about 12" long with about 5" of 1' X 1" handle. I air tested it on coins and hear is the stats, 1$=2.5", .50=2 1/4", .25=2", .10=1.5", .05=1.25", and .01=1.25". Not bad of course coins in ground will have plus or minus depth depending on ground conditions. The instructions say to pump it the same way as a regular coil to ground balance, or set controls at 10:00 oclock for coin shooting.
I think it is a good tool to have, but I plan on getting the Sun Ray X-1 installed on my Explorer XS. Thank you Ralph @ Sun Ray for the info on your products, I feel that the X-1 will make my XS a mean machine.
I would like to say that the main reason for gathering all of this high tech equipment is that I have spent the whole summer researching old Arizona military and home sites, and now that winter is here in the desert I am going to pull the trigger on treasure hunting. It is time to tune up, turn on, and find the goodies. HH TB

I took little TM out today and put it through the field test, it did real good. I like the fact that you can ground balance it, all you have to do is adjust the tuning knob while raising and lowering it to the ground, take a few seconds, but adds depth.
The strange thing is when I first pulled the Treasure Mate out and turned it on my Minelab XS and the Treasure Mate both went into a melt down, but I hit the noise cancle on the XS to change channels and everything went back to normal. TB

You won't regret the Sunray probe. For the money (it costs slightly more than the Treasure Mate) it is the best there is. Once you get to know it, you can detect up to 3" on coins. To get a little more depth I've found through experience that if you sweep it in short fast back and forth sweeps you will go just a bit deeper. But 3" is pretty much the limit I get on mine. It's still better than about anything except the Uniprobe, which costs twice as much. So, you will enjoy it. Good hunting.
