Anybody Using The Fisher CoinStrike

HI, Is there anybody here that uses the Fisher CoinStrike that could enlighten on adjusting the "Threshold" I have a coinstrike ordered (ebay) so I downloaded a manual for it and I'm still fuzzy on the threshold adjustment?
With my older detectors the threshold is the audio tone set to just being able to hear it while your running the detector, BUT! the instruction for the CoinStrike doesn't read that way at all?

Mark the manuals instructions for setting the threshold on the Coinstrike are worthless. Most of what it says IMO applies to the Goldstrike when hunting in the highly mineralized conditions found in gold country and were just copied over to the Coinstrike manual.

Threshold settings in the silent search disc mode reduce or increase the audio signal strength on deep or shallow tiny targets. The Coinstrike is hotter on small stuff like foil than the CZ's.. much hotter. I hardly ever use notch but when strictly coin hunting parks with hot settings I found that notching out foil helpful at times.

I have seen lots of different posts on how to set the threshold and sensitivity on the C$ and various explanations of why. Basically on coin size targets at the depths we most often dig lower threshold settings will still see the coins. That said once I got used to the Coinstrikes way of doing things I almost always ran high settings like sens 8, threshold -10 or higher. At +1 you can hear ground and/or internal circuit noise.

The Coinstrike I got off ebay, and it was sent to my brother house (he got it today) I won't see it until tomorrow evening. He did contact me and said that the CS has a constant ringing noise that is pretty loud and wasn't controlled by the volume. He said he tried the factory preset mode and it still did it, I had him turn down the sensitivity and then set the threshold to -40 and it still did the ringing? Anybody had the problem, or do I have a broken CS?

What does the LOW battery audio warning on the CS sound like? the manual states a "Wavering" sound! I don't call a phone ringing a wavering sound, but I stopped and bought a new set of Duracells (two pack, good till 2014) and the ringing is gone!

Okay, I'm working on the Threshold deal and it looks like Fisher has created a monster with the instructions on adjusting the "Threshold" Now I have sent Fisher's support an email stating (asking) what I understand the Threshold to be, which would be the normal "Threshold Tone" a running very low audible tone (barely able to hear).
Its from hear that an audio report from a target starts from. If the threshold tone is to low then a faint or weak audio report though there may not raise the audio level enough to be heard, hence the need for a "Target Report Audio Starting Point", Fisher's term is "Trigger"

If you set the Threshold tone to high than you would narrow the range above the threshold and your MAX volume setting. So in my theory the best threshold setting would be the lowest possible setting that gives you an audio tone that is faint but still heard.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see the Threshold connected to the sensitivity control? other than if you run a high sensitivity and a threshold tone WAY below audible then you wouldn't hear all of the chatter and wavering because it wouldn't be bringing up the target report audio enough to be heard (might not make it to a threshold level). If you do that then you lose the benefit of running high sensitivity, I mean the whole idea of high sensitivity to reach the deep faint targets.

In my theory you set the threshold tone to barley able to hear (threshold of hearing), then run your sensitivity as high as you can and the machine still be stable. If the coinstike is any different then I'm really lost????

Yes, the Threshold does interact with the Sensitivity.

I would run with the Threshold on say -20 or -30 to start with. Yes, that's correct, I did mean negative on that threshold number. I would also run the sensitivity down in the low numbers, say somewhere around #5. These are good starting points until you learn your detector.

Let me make a suggestion to you. Do a search on this forum page using Coinstrike as your search word, (or Coin $ ). They are many, many post on the Coinstrike here. Have fun. :)

Mark If I'm understanding you correctly hopefully this will help, the Coinstrike is a silent search detector meaning it has no audible threshold tone in discrimination mode. However the threshold adjustment is still used to set the trigger level for signals to come through to a degree. It's been a while since I have used one so this may not apply but on most silent search machines with a seperate threshold adjustment higher settings increase the audio signal strength...(think of the Tesoro super tuning trick) There is no need to run it in the + numbers to hear the background noise. Unless you are running in Super Clean quiet ground there is no performance benefit to + threshold settings

I've been using the cs for 2 months now Sunday I pulled 82 clad coins and a sterling silver ring out of a local park if you go the the end of the pages in the fisher classic fourm and work your way to the first page there is a ton of info untill the f75 came out than all info just seemed to stop this is my first detector and seems to work very well I have all three coils and love the 5 inch for the trash in the parks
 
Do a search on this forum using the following words...

Okay, I just talked to a tech from Fisher labs! (I also fiddled around with the forum search for coinstrike and didn't have much luck)
But I did find out that,

You can run the detector with a audible running tone if you want to, but yes! its a silent search machine.

The threshold setting is an audio tone setting, but the setting effects the point where the signal comes in at. The higher the number or the closer you get to the positive numbers the more sensitive the machine is to the signal. (I found myself thinking of it like a sensitivity fine adjust, the tech didn't say that I just thought it)

The problem with high number settings of the threshold is that if you are trying to run higher sensitivity the detector becomes unstable (or overly sensitive)

The tech told me that when calls come in about the threshold on the coinstrike they recommend "STARTING OUT" at about 3/4 (75%) of the sensitivity and
-30 on threshold setting for good smooth performance. Then as you learn the machine and the different things it does then you can raise the threshold settings accordingly.

The higher the threshold the more sensitive the audio is to respond to the signal report from a target.

Can anybody give me a little history of the CoinStrike?
I thought that it went like this,

CZ7,
CZ70,
ID Excel
ID Edge
Then the Coinstrike.

But the tech led me to believe that the Coinstrike was out BEFORE the ID series, True or False?

Go to the last page on the fisher classic forum and work toward the first page your search won't produce much because most of the posts on the coinstrike are over a year old so you start at the last page working toward the first hope this helps

Well I downloaded the manual for the Gold Strike and the instructions for adjusting the Threshold tone is more clear (better put) then the instructions for the C$, see below,
