anyone compared Vance vs. gray ghost wireless headphones for the XP Deus

Hope you get the thicker ear padding and I hate to say it but head size is irrelevant. I wear a size 7 to 7 1/8 hat and they killed my head. I think it has more to do with the quality control and size of the HL headband.

I haven't used the GG, but the Vance phones were way to tight, they pinched my ears. I wear a size small cap, No matter how I tried to adjust them, I couldn't wear them for long. Great sound, terrible fit. I ended up sending mine back for a refund. I have owned a pair of GG before, they fit just fine.

I've used the WS4's, WS5's, Vance Phones and the CP6 Chefphones. My personal like was the WS5's Fit well and shounded best.

Get the WS4 Backphones if you plan on buying a 3rd party set later, or get the WS5's and be done with it. I will say on a 106º day the WS4's aren't a bad choice.

So, I received my new pair of Vance phones this week. My first impression of them was that they were extremely tight fitting.... Painful even. BUT by taking some time to carefully stretch the headband to reduce its tension (I did this by spreading the muffs and stretched them around my 11 inch coil) They feel VERY comfortable now. Appropriately snug and soundproof. The tones seem very good. The deep whispers are definitely there.

The only strange phenomenon I am incurring is that the Vance phones are louder than the WS4s. I normally use a volume setting of 3 or 4 on the back phones but 1 is about the same on the Vance. 2 is a little too loud for me. A volume setting of 1.5 would be just right! I haven't spoken to Jeremy Vance about the volume disparity yet... But If I find it to be problematic I may consider adding a resistor network to reduce the volume slightly but still maintain the 16 ohm impedance that the Deus audio circuit likes.

Overall they seem very good. I'll definitely report back after some additional time out in the field.

Cheers.

Thanks Capt... do let us know how they are after more time with them. Did you get the new ones with the thicker pads?
Thanks for serving and Semper Fi...

Thanks for that MartyGene. I'm actually just a Charter-boat Capt. No military service here. The credit should go where it is due.

Regarding the phones, I have the original style cups on mine.

I own the WS4s and WS5s. I tried the Grey Ghosts and they sounded terrible. Like a wet sponge was in them. I did like the build but they push hard on my big head. The WS4s hurt the tops of my ears with wearing glasses after about 4 hours. The WS5s, where to begin. Of course they both sound great, but I felt ripped off by the build of the WS5s. They aren't tight, actually loose. The pads fall off by looking at them wrong. Had to gaffer tape them to get them to stay on. Even the XP stickers fell right off instantly. My V-Moda music headphones at 1/2 the price of the WS5s have a 10x better build. Because they don't press on your head the WS5s don't block much outside noise.

I tried on Vance's phones at an event and thought they felt good. Haven't heard the sounds but I've been told they are close to XP tones. I'll get a pair one day and probably sell the WS5s. But yeah, avoid Grey Ghosts.
