Like... won't turn on but LED backlight works fine??? Try cycling the on/off knob on your unit a few times.

1) One time when turned on, the display was very dim. Turned off and back on and it was OK, so off I went. Batteries read full. That was about the 4th or 5th time turned on. Since I've only turned it on about a dozen times, I'm watching it and hoping it doesn't repeat.

2) Unrelated to number 1. I don't like the power on / off volume knob. Twice I have set the detector down on a soft blanket to store and turned the power on as the detector settled into the blanket. Did not notice it the first time and when I next went to get the detector, batteries were dead. Second time, I heard the click, turned it off and more carefully repositioned the detector. It takes very little force to get past the click on the switch and the switch position is not the best in my opinion. This is the only detector I have that I can't just hang the arm rest on a high narrow shelf and let the detector hang coil down. The LTD's arm rest won't come close to catching on a shelf, so I lay it flat. When that puts a little bit of friction on the knob, it inadvertently turns the detector on.

Hope to hit a beach with it tomorrow afternoon / evening and do some more learning.
