So maybe 10 years ago, the Missus and meself used to vacation at a hotel on the southern Maine coast. They had a single bedroom apartment on the bottom floor with its own patio, on the beach. We would get there, check in, unload the car, and then go food shopping. Once that was done if the tide was low enough Lisa knows where I’m gonna be. So all our activities are mostly scheduled around the low tides. I use an Excalibur, which only has headphones, no external speaker. So on the last day of detecting, I get a signal, dig it up and it’s a folded up piece of paper. Inside the paper is a penny, and on the paper is a note “Got you scavenger!” Id’a laughed harder if they coulda at least used a dime!

Reminds me a bit about the couple of times I've been detecting a crowded beach and someone would throw a coin somewhat in front of the direction I've been moving to see it I get it.

Sign of the times, today's dime is only worth yesteryear's penny. Best of all, you remember the experiences. Keep on swinging and enjoy each and every target you find, it is not there anymore for someone else to find.

Can’t really explain it, but salt water beach detecting is my favorite. We live in Pepperell, and I usually go to Hampton Beach, NH. It’s usually about 45 minutes to an hour each way. Easy parking unless it’s a sunny day in July, August :) . Year round bathroom open, heated, tile floors. So to the point…..They sometimes have an Easter egg hunt on the beach. They put candies in plastic eggs, and bury them in the sand, in a roped off area. After the hunt the ropes come down. One year I just happen to get up there the weekend after Easter, and the candy that year was Hershey Kisses. I think I found 4 or 5, that the kids missed. Turns out the foil on the Kisses was good enough to be detected through he sand and plastic.

You ever run into NH beach metal detector ? from youtube?
