Anyone had this happen to their SE

Hi Guys,

Just wondered if anyone had the display screen go crazy on their SE, it happened to mine today, I Emailed Minelab with these pictures and they said to send the SE straight back to them, hopefully they won't keep it too long.

Maybe it's a fault with the SE, I don't know whether Minelab will repair or replace mine, I live in hope that it will be replaced

I have a new explorer 11 and went out the other day and mine did the same thing.What I think happend was I turned it on and was walking over ground that had a lot of trash while it was loading.I shut it off and stood still and everything was fine.

I know the XLT would have those problems from time to time and actually a reboot procedure was put in manual..Like any electronic unit one bad solder joint can cause all kinds of problems...Factory has the testing equipment and should come back as new.....

YES I DID. Faulty board. I sent mine back to the dealer, they sent me a new one and the other to Minelab in Vegas for a repair. Minelab said they'd do an expedite repair, but my dealer (Thanks KellyCo) said they'd take care of it. Took a week to get a new one. Minelab said it was a very rarely ocurring problem that had happened mostly on older Explorers, not the SE. Minelab will take care of it for you, I'm sure.

I had the very same problem with an explorer 2. The display went wonky mostly infact almost always when in the discrimination editing mode when playing about with the settings. Not a dry joint in my humble opinion , i would say this problem is a software related problem. Its a glitch (a design flaw).

OK, Thanks Guys, it looks like it is not an isolated case, I gather that the Explorers minelab fixed or replaced are all OK, it would be a nuisance to get it back and find the same problem.

I'm beginning to wonder if this is going to be an issue with the SE, There has been about seven reported on the forum with this same fault, so I guess it's not too bad out all the SE's sold.

I just got back from two weeks in the Riverina in NSW.
Just un-packed as a matter of fact,and had a peek on the forum and saw your problem... Not good at all!
I'm sure that you'll be looked after by the Minelab boys mate.
If you're stuck, and can come to Melbourne, I still have my Explorer II.
You would be most welcome to use it while yours is being fixed.
I haven't had any problem with my SE over the last two weeks, except a problem with an erratic switch on occasionally ~ early on the trip.
I pulled out the NIMH battery and gave the metal contacts a good hard rub with some coarse flannel, and it gave no further problem.
Low voltage has problems with poor contacts, and I think that sometimes the metal that they use for contacts sometimes have an oily residue from the sheet metal stock that they are made from.
I give my AA batteries a good hard rub also.
I thought that sometimes the display was missing some targets, but found that these were marginal targets that were giving inconsistent signals, these were actually bordering on accept/reject zone...
Had me a bit baffled for a while, I was beginning to think that my TID was playing up too!!!

Minelab had problems with the Explorer II too. The Explorer II would just shut off or reboot. They got those problems worked out and I'm sure they will with the SE.
