Anyone have luck digging half-beeps?

I've had my MXT about six months now but still have a lot to learn. I have read many tips on hunting trashy areas and have had some success doing so. I recently learned the advantages of Relic mode with Trigger fwd. I am currently hunting a three story hotel that burnt many years ago. The term "heavy trash" would be a major understatement for this site inside the foundations. It's practically one large overload signal. Given the large amount of trash, should I pay more attention to the "half beeps" - a high tone (in Relic,TRIG FWD)that only sounds in one direction of the sweep, or even only every other sweep. Philosophically, I'm of the beep-dig school, but my bad spine won't allow me to practice it. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Kevin

I dont know if this will help as i am fairly new as well but whenever I dig in a trshy site i try for the smooth signals then turn 90 degrees and if it is smooth then i dig ( alot of aluminum ) but in an area like that I dont think you can get around doing alot of digging hope my senseless rambling helps.

For KyKev, what advantage do you find in the trigger forward relic mode over the center trigger? I've only been using my MXT for two months. In the forward position the threhold sounds like the coin mode for me, spuddery. Rob

Do yourself a favor,

Set up the MXT with your typical discrimination setting and set it to Relic mode.

Put a coin on the ground and then put one or two nails on top of it.

With the coil a few inches above ground, sweep over the coin/nail combo with the trigger forward, then do it again with the trigger in the center position.

Notice any difference in the sound?

That is basicly what I do too on one way beeps is turn and come at it from a differnt angle to get it to be repeatable, if not and still one way or not at all it is trash.

In relic mode you will have 2 tones a high and a low. The high is anything not disc out while the low is your disc out targets. Now with the trigger in the forward position the only low tones I get are the iron while the high tones is anything that is not disc out. I run with it in the center position, but if it is real trashy and gets nothing but low tones I will push the toggle forward and any iffy signals I will check in the center position. I find I can go faster and hear the targets I want to check out better in the relic mode and just go by the VID numbers as the icons are made for relic hunting.

rcasio44- I probably used the wrong word-advantage- to describe the Relic with TRIG fwd mode. I simply found that to my ears, and in the very heavy trash I'm now hunting, I prefer the sound of the C/J mode(which is now a trash indicator controlled by the discrimination level) to the low tone (duck fart) of the center trigger position. To my ears the high tone seems to stand out better from the trash hits. It might be because I hunted exclusively in C/J mode for quite a while before experimenting with the other modes and am used to tuning out the "spuddering" you referred to. I still prefer the C/J mode for light to moderate trash areas, but I will switch to Relic mode to evaluate an "iffy" signal.

Good luck
Kevin

KyKev I've hunted in both trigger positions and didn't see an advantage. When I hunt in the trigger center position I can run +1-3 and still have a smooth treshold. Thanks for the reply. Rob

Yep. I decided that unless I get a clear repeatable high tone, (in Relic mode) I can quit worrying about missing a good target. I still prefer the Alt mode (Trig Fwd) for the low tone. This doesn't address the "whisper targets" though, which would most likely never be heard in the extreme trash conditions we are talking about. Feel free to expound, especially if I didn't "get it" by performing the test.
