Allen,I have dug a couple of similar heart-shaped padlocks over the years from sites dateing from about 1880.Based on these experiences (I am no expert by any means)I would guess your lock would date from about 1880-1900.I knocked the loose rust from mine with a wire brush and coated it with black shoe polish.Makes a neat looking display.Nice dig.

Heavily oxidized tumbler-style padlock exhibiting a wrought iron case and shackle as well as an ornate brass keyhole cover known as a drop or dust cover. The brass drop on this example is stamped "PATENT". The use of brass keyhole covers on iron padlocks did not become common until after ca. 1840 (Russel Erwin Manufacturing Company 1865<<<

That lock's construction (iron flat face and back riveted to straight sides) is similar to the one I posted last week although it is a different shape.Mine was found on a site that dates to around 1874-78 and it has a Victorian mark.Unfortunately the part that could be marked is missing on yours(the key hole cover plate). It's pretty hard to specify to a year on an object like that.See if you can find one like yours on the site I have a link for.
