There is one for sale, cheap,in my area. I know nothin about this machine. How old is it? How does it do?Whats it good for?lol

Well I'm assuming it works. I have seen some pics,it looks to be in great shape. Was thinking about getting it but wanted to know if it is a good machine first. They want 150$ , is that a good deal?

Not bad if it's in really good shape. I'd check it out thoroughly and make sure he has the manual for it. Don't know if Garrett still caries them or not. You can always talk him down a few bucks. I always do on everything I buy.

I think Old Les, The Bluenose, still uses something like it. Pretty cool detectors, really, with that nifty dual range, tone ID discrimination feature.
Here is an online report of the Freedom III Coin Commander:

Know that these days, they are looked at by Garrett with a cautious eye. The tech at Garrett I spoke to earlier in the year said there are fewer and fewer parts for the older models, and an ever shrinking pool of expertise if they need repair. At some point, they must simply stop offering to support them. They are definitely old school.

It $150 a fair price? In my book, yes. That's too rich, IMHO, for a detector as dated as it is. Note, I didn't say un-usable - just dated, with all the concerns already mentioned. For that same money I'll sell you a modern Ace 250... and so will other people.

But, if it is working and in sound condition, then I'd go $100.
