Anyone pinpoint in disc. mode ?

I seldom use the pinpoint button and hunt in the mode I am running which is usually Conduct...Sometimes for a iffy or deepie I may but not often..Seems to me using the pinpoint draws a lot of power from my experience with other units and batteries last longer and its basically all metal so a piece of junk can interfere with accurate pinpoint..Any opinions or the like and seldom off target using the front tip of the coil and going from at least two directions..Used the Sov. the same way so I guess its what works for me but lets hear what works for you...

I use pinpoint all the time. The coil itself in regular mode does a pretty good job, but for me, I find that pinpoint helps isolate the target and 'shrink' it down to confirm. But, I also use pinpoint to verify the depth of the target based on the sound. Shallow targets pinpoint with a very strong, higher pitched signal, while the deeper ones provide a softer, lower toned signal. I use that information to help decide. I also use pinpoint to determine the 'shape' of the target. The depth and shape are probably the main reasons I use pinpoint.

I've been wondering about this since I got my SE a couple months ago. Sometimes when I use the pinpoint, it nails the target right on in the center of the coil. Other times it pinpoints at the tip of the coil. Other times it doesnt pinpoint at all..it actually nulls the whole target area out.
I'm still very new at this machine..and it is very different from anything I've ever had. I do like it though.

Certainly give and takeaways eitherway and thanks for the input....using a lower gain gives me a good idea of depth from the getgo...and of course iron or junk just covers more area so indeed Minelab gives us many choices to excell in various ways...

I use pinpoint primarily to verify SIZE of the target. I was used to the whites machines that the volume would tell the whole story as to size.... the MLs doesnt do it as well. If you raise your coil about a foot over where you think the target is then turn on pinpoint you will find it works the VCO works better. If you try an pinpoint to close to the ground the target can be anywhere around your coil and you could pick up other targets. It does help if you properly center the target for TID as well on deeper targets. Ive never had a problem hunting all day with the standard battery pack an i use very little disc which means the machine has to work harder and produces more tones as does the threshold. Do i have to use pinpoint.... na. Ive been at this a day or two and can normally just wiggle the target toward the tip of the coil.
