Anyone see the new Whites (Vision) detector yet ? WOW:surprised:

Yeah. I won't be jumping on it any time soon. I expect them to be around the $3000 mark here in Oz. They are also still unproven. Very intriguing, but unproven. It will be interesting to see how things unfold. We won't know the real story on this machine for at least six months, or as long as it takes for folks to properly master the machine. There'll be a lot of excitement and some disappointments too as the early production glitches come to the fore.
If they turn out to be a great unit, I might consider it in 2 or 3 years time, but that's a long time and other detectors could be out by then.

It seems to get more expensive each time I look at it. They were quoting US $1500 for it a few days back, now it's closer to US $1700!:stars::stretcher:
If I lived back in the big smoke, you'd be right on about finding enough to pay for it; but sadly, that's 250 miles away:cry: when I bought my new detector toy a couple of days back ( I had to go to Sydney) I talked to the fellas in the shop and they told me about a couple who detect for a living and find $400 every day they go out!:surprised: This is not the first time they've told me about them. They must be pretty hot detectorists to do that though. My find rate is an average of around $11 an hour when I hunt down there. I think that that is a more typical rate.
You should have heard some of the gold hunting stories that I have heard over the last week. It's almost enough to entice one to take up detecting for a living, but I'd need to have access to a bull dozer to be productive enough.

I can't wait to see what they come up with for a new high end machine. I am sure it will totally rock. A new high end Garrett is probably the only machine I would want to go buy new instead of waiting for one to show up on the used market like I usually do. In fact I would probably call up my local dealer and tell him to put me on the waiting list to be sure to get one of the first ones he gets in.

It sure has been a long time between high end machines though - I sure hope they get something to market before too much longer.......
 
Hopefully they WILL NOT RUSH IT! I'd rather wait awhile for something thats ultra cool and is 100% the day they ship it out the door, SO if It's cool I can wait a loooooong time.
 
I want Garrett to make a SUPER ACE 250. Something with the kind of accuracy, but way more powerful. And not have that big green bulky box design. Something sleek, Like the Ace 250 design.
 
The VISION looks nice, but I don't know if I am ready for it, if ever. This reminds me of the old hunting adage that you should beware of the hunter who only owns one rifle. The implication is that he really knows how to use his one and only gun. I have a GTI 2500, ACE 250 and HH Wader. The old timers claim that you need at least 100 hours on a detector before you get proficient with it. I probably have almost 100 hours on the 2500, but not many on the others. I guess I need to spend lots of time on the other machines before even considering a new one. Maybe Garrett will have something interesting out by then. :detecting:
 
Yeah 100 hours minimum to fully familiarize yourself with your detector and even then you may not know all its secrets. I put nearly that many hours on one when I field test it.

I'd be stoked just to have the softer tones on the Ace that the GTI's have, especially if they were as animated as much as the Scorcher coil. that is the only feature that I don't like about it.

I'm finding that at a 100 hours, you are just starting to get familiar with your machine I used to think that that was a lot of time to put on a machine before you could make an honest assessment of it's effectiveness, but after doing it, not so. I think that even after 400 hours you are stilling learning about the subtleties of a machine.
I'm back up to 5 machines at the moment and know that I'm not going to use them all. I tend to use 2 most of the time, so at least one more will go and one that is not in good enough shape to sell, will collect dust a fair bit.

that's the way i feel. of all the new detectors out i don't feel the need for any. i will not pay high dollar for the vision. the detector i really want is a new improved and more powerful ace 250. i am really waiting for that.
 
Seems like everyone would prefer simple and cheap with raw power, target id and lots of depth. So do I....Me more so than almost anyone. I'm afraid the days of simple and cheap may be coming to an end. Looking at the Garrett 2500 on EBAY, ranging from around $850(new) to close to $1200(new) and the Whites V3 at $1700 with the wireless headphones tells me we are heading only in one direction. Check out the new Minelab and and see the same thing. It takes way more than chump change to buy one of these machines. I'd like to see some of the older models souped up, but I don't know if they can add more power(depth) or what ever and still keep it simple and cheap. I've talked to some of the "Old Timers" who are swinging some real antiques and they can't see why anyone would need depth indicators, imaging or graphs. Too many bells and whistles for them. They seem to like it simple and cheap. HH Dennis
 
From what i have read it looks like a souped up XLT, way overpriced in my opinion. Bells & whistles ? no matter what machine you choose the
more control you have to adapt to your hunting conditions the better off you are as opposed to factory presets on a touch and go machine.
If i am hunting a iron infested old home site i want to be able to change my recovery speed and the amount of iron rejection i am using. If i
am field hunting for relics i need to be able to change my pre amp gain. Any machine i use has to have tone id, a different tone for every vdi #.
All of this is just common sense. Yea i might have to go into a menu to change them but it is well worth the results.
 
its all bells and whistles... my ads 7 still kcocks the sockes offf the newer detectors ive used. i keep my discrim at #4 , { foil} , and i dig,dig and dig some more. those fancy bar graphs and notches pass over MANY goodies.
