Anyone sell homemade diggers?

I hear a lot about how people dont waste a lot of money buying expensive diggers and instead make their own that are even better. Has anybody turned that into a business and make any for people to buy? I do not have the room or skill to make one myself and I definitely need a new one to help get through roots and such. Im mostly a coin/jewelry person, but will occasionally be doing relic hunting. If anyone can put me into the right direction i would appreciate it

It is against the rules for a business to advertise on Finds that is not a sponsor, but I really don't see how someone could make and sell for a profit a digger that is better than the Lesche/Predator for less than what you could buy one for, but I might be wrong. I often see them on here for about $35 new with 5 year warranty. Or available from many of our sponsors.

I lost my lesche digger it took me a week of back tracking to find it, during that time thought of making my own out of O1 shim stock and hammerig one out on my forge and machine shop.Steel would cost 10 dollars your still looking about 30 dollars shipped to make it worth while it would be as good as a lesche, but I wouldnt want to make a buisness out of it to labor intensive.I believe I seen lesche diggers for under $40 shipped with a sheath.I was thinking of making two and posting it here while the snow flys.CEDAR

I guess I should rephrase...I didnt mean business as like a full on thing, where their sponsoring themselves and stuff..but I meant it as do people who make their own modifications make multiple ones as well and wouldnt mind selling them. I kno people from other forums who made their own and people asked if they could make one for them and they had no problem with it. Thats what i meant

I make my own diggers, if you can find something off the shelf and modify it, thats the way to go. What ever you start with be sure its heavy duty, welded handle etc. My water scoop is made from raw stock, I did the fab work myself and unless you've got a buddy that can weld it up for you for free, its cheaper to buy one already built.

hey i make a great homemade digger and its cake to make for me get a piece of angle iron ive used from 3/4 inch to 2 inch the thinner the better and i heat it up and pound it with a hammer to open up the angle iron a bit to get a wider digger the thing is you need to smash the outher end flat in a vice after your done then i take a 3m roloc wheel and smooth it out tell it tapers to the edges sharpen the edge with a hand file i put a hand grip of a bike on one ive rapped some with cord but i think the easyest thing is go to a ace hardware and get that rubber coating that you dip stuff in and dip it a couple of times it looks good and i dont think you will get messed with at parks with a 12 inch looks like a blade hanging off your belt its kinda a pain you first couple of diggers but after you made a few it easy and i have never broke one or even bent one ill build a few and end up giving them to my buds it might cost 15 bucks for materials the first one becouse of the rubber coating stuff and that will coat 5 or 6 of them depending on how many times you dip it then i usually got to are local metal shop and get some scrap metal for 2 or 3 buck and thats it ive pounded them with a 4lb hammer into rocky ground and they still didnt bend

Yeah, I could probably make a nice "looking" digger. I've made everything from sturgeon spear heads to industrial grade ice scrapers for people, but the hardening process most use will not come close to a Lesche or Predator. THAT is where these products excell. Something tells me they do more than just an oil quenching technique for hardening....jmo but I'll shell out the small amount of dough for a quality product, not to mention someone else to yell at if I ever break it...

100% stainless steel and extremely strong.Weighs 2 Pounds. Made for me by one of my best forum/hunting buddies as a gift

Bobby,

Any local machine shop will be happy to make whatever you want, if you want to go that route, or locate a local vocational school that trains machinist, the kids will be thrilled to get their first job of building a digger for you. Offer cash for the best design and stand back.
