anyone use a platypus on the beach?

Just got my platypus coil in a few days ago, I love the coil and it will probably be my everyday coil. I was just wondering if anyone used this coil on the beach in the wet sand and surf? I gave it a shot and liked it but I had alot of falsing with the sensitivity anywhere from 13-20. Didnt even try to run it higher. Tried auto and manual sensitivity and still had the falsing. I could tell when a target was really there but maybe on the deep ones I missed it. Today I used the stock 10.5 and had the sens. at 23-26, no problems but a little falsing now and then but for the most part it was quiet. I slowed my sweep speed down to a crawl and it was much better but still not as quiet as the stock coil. Is this normal or is the coil messed up? Thanks for any help!! Good Luck!!

Only inland up to now.

Its very sensative and needs the sensitivity lowering a little.

It does not like overhead power lines and once noise cancel has been activiated, drop the sensitivity a little until it finds the correct level.

Subject to the weather I will try it out on the beach tomorrow.Jerry.

I left the beach now and am back at home, it's no big deal because I love the coil and it should be great in the dirt, I am a fairly new explorer user so I was not to sure about dropping the sensitivity down to far. Good Luck Hunting!!

I've only used the Platypus once on the beach, I had to lower the sensitivity to 15 to 18, then it worked better, also pulled a Rosie and a Buffalo, made my day!!

Hi Guys,

As promised I went to the beach for the first time using the Platipus.

As inland it is more sensative than the Minelab stock coil.

I had to drop the sensitivity to an average of 20 over all sorts of sand from the clean dry to the wet black.

Pinpointing was accurate and it was a pleasure to use.

I prefer the Manual seeting with regards sensitivity but did run it also as sami auto.

28 coins in 2 hours means I can see this Platipus spending the rest of its life on my Explorer MKII.

Have fun with yours.Jerry.
