while I am not a big fan of Double-D coils for the types of sites I hunt the most, preferring Concentrics and a smaller sized coil, I found the Detech 10" DD coil to work pretty well for more open areas that inly had spares to moderate amounts of trash. I compared it at the time on my original MXT and M6 and liked it better then the stock 950 coils, and that was mainly due to improved balance and 'feel.' The rod-mount point was closer to center than the 950 and that improved the balance and feel of the 10" DD coil.
I borrowed one to do some evaluations about 8 months ago and I liked it better than the 10" D2 Double-D also, but .... I also compared it with my 9" spider Concentric coil (which measures just about 9¼" diameter) and since the 9" spider also mounts a little closer to sent, it balances better than the 950, and I preferred its performance in some testing with the 10" Detech Excelerator.
The 10" D2 also feels heavier to me, noticeably, than the 9" when they are on an MX5, M6 or my MXT All-Pro. Matter of fact, I have an extra 10" D2 DD coil sitting around here in my den that I'd gladly get rid of as it is taking up space and is never used afield. If you want one I'll sell it for $100 plus $15 for shipping to the lower 48, but I am naturally curious as to what use you have for a 10" DD coil instead of the stock 950? Have you used DD coils much? What types of sites are you hunting the most?
Anyway, while they are a little more difficult to acquire, I think the 10' Excelerator would work fine. As for holding up well and being covered by a local manufacturer, that's something else.
Just curious,
