Anyone using a sunray probe on their cz.....

If someone can't pinpoint with the VCO of a CZ better take up basket weaving, however I can understand wanting the probe to check the sides of the hole and CZ's go deeeep..
Lots of good handheld ones around to do this and lets face it a CZ with the exception of the rod only CZ7 and CZ7A are not the best weighted or ergonomic perfect units and adding more weight and bulk is not a plus...Have to admit the pricey Sunray probe is the best around and far superior to most handheld ones but like everything else in life has its give and takeaways...So if your asking a Sunray probe will surely do the job sure will and many also prefer a good handhel probe so all a matter of preference and just kidding about the weaving thing as I know you are a proficient detectorist Bob so I guess its your call...

I use one on a 3D. Tried lots of handhelds. I like the fact that I can't loose it. It's so light you won't notice a weight differance. It's much deeper than hand helds I tried.I can pinpoint dimes at 6" in the ground.
While CZ's do pinpoint very well........ coins on edge, rings, muddy/soft ground can be difficult to hit when probing in the ground. The Sunray narrows it down to a 1" dia. circle. Best thing there is with a CZ.

Thanks for your thoughts Dan. And no, I didn't take offense. You can poke fun at me anytime you want. I've got pretty thick skin. The only problem that I have with my cz is that I absolutely hate the sound of it's vco pinpointing, so I rarely use it. Out in the sticks that isn't a problem. But in a nice yard I like to be as precise as possible when digging. I'm sticking with my cz70 this year, all year, and going to try and get out as much as possible. I've given up detecting to pursue other hobbies before, and always seemed to come back to mding. This year I'm going to give up or cut back on most of my other interests and really get out and dig to see what I can unearth. Must be an age thing but I'm always thinking about detecting and the rush of finding neat old stuff just keeps getting better. Bob.

A CZ should have a toggle VCO or conventional as both have their plus and minus features. A;though over the years have tried a lot of units and always come back to a CZ .Certainly a CZ is not perfect but is user friendly and may be the deepest unit on the planet coil for coil. As Fisher has entered the F series era hold on to your CZ and indeed glad you are back in the hobby as we always need good people like yourself..

that's what I love the most about cz's. You never have to worry about if it's going deep enough. It may mask things some, and be partial to iron, but it's simplicity and raw power just can't be beat. Kind of like a 45 auto, 357mag and a 30:06. Old, tried and true, and never will be completely obsolete IMHO. Come on spring!! Been doing some research and am hot to trot on some new old sites. Bob.

YOU MAY WANT TO TRY THE NEW GARRETT PINPOINTER. IT WORKS BETTER THAN ANY OTHER HAND HELD ONE THAT I HAVE SEEN.IT'S $127+TAX WITH A COUPLE OF GOODIES. I HAVE NOT TRIED SUNRAY.

I would hunt without it. It saves me countless hours of needless diggin' when chasing iffy hits. On a 4 hour hunt...the sunray probe saves me at least an hour worth of hunt time. It also helps keep me from scratching a nice coin...and is great at finding coins off to the side of the hole.
On an iffy hit....a quick scan of the dug hole quickly tells me whether or not its a deep iron/nail hit...or a possible good target.
I honestly don't know any cons...other than it might be considered a little pricey. Worth every penny in my opinion.
