My best friend got a Gold Digger as a gift. Never detected before. Wasn't really interested in it. He's more of an arrowhead hunter. I finally talked him into learning the sounds and going out with me. He got hooked after finding a Merc in his yard. He's only employed part time right now so he's had plenty if time to hunt. Here's what he's found in the last two months at at two local ball fields. Persistence and listening are clearly more important than what kind of machine you have. He knows every whisper that thing makes. I let him borrow my Discovery 2200 and he hated it.

I got mine at Walmart for $50 and the handle broke on me. I put an old Tracke IV "S" rod on it and soldered a 4" coil off an old tracker on it. I'm getting ready to add a headphone jack to mine. I've had it for about 9 years and it ain't no slouch.
