Are mono coils redundant Eric

I see there is a switching mod.on the market[in Aust.] for all sd models which converts dd coils into mono`s as on the gp if this system is any good you only need a range of dd coils, whats the catch! is there a down side do they compromise the performance on the mono side?

Hi Kris,
As far as I am concerned, mono coils are not redundant. There are cases where DD's are advantageous in highly mineralised ground but for normal non, or weakly, mineralised ground monos give better range and at least as good a coverage.
As far as switching a DD to be a mono, this must be very much a compromise with less performance than an equivalent size true mono. Perhaps John Kah of Coiltek could comment if he is reading this forum?
Eric.
