Are You Practicing Safe Swinging??

I sure hope so! I've been meaning to post my coil protection experiments, hope they are of use to someone :twodetecting: (photo at the bottom)

I tried a coil cover first, but the rocks are sneaky around here in New Mexico - they hide in the grass and strike when you least expect it. The edges cracked and pieces were flopping around before long.

Next, I tried pickup bed liner spray. It worked okay, but I found that it wore off fairly quickly and even with four coats, just wasn't building up to a nice thick layer. It didn't seem rubbery enough, either. This was Rustoleum brand, others may give better results.

I tried "Plasti-Dip" spray next. This is the stuff you use to form a rubbery handle on tools & stuff. I really thought this was going to be the one! It went on fine and made a thicker, rubberier coating, but peeled off quickly from both the coil and ProPointer. NEXT!!

I was walking through Wal Mart and noticed a display of Flex Seal Rubber Sealant Spray. As I happened to have $13 burning a hole in my pocket, and being the wildly adventurous soul that I am, I snagged one. Lo and behold, it works very well. It's been on for about a month and no peeling. It went on thick, leaving a nice layer of rubbery goodness!! I should have known that it would be 'the one' when I saw the "As Seen on TV" logo!! It's on the AT Pro & Gold coils and the ProPointer and doing a great job.

Hope this saves someone some time & money!!

I used the plastidip in red on my propointer(the dip in type,3 coats) after dozens of uses it seems to be holding up! I am having trouble with the coil covers allowing dirt and weeds inside. I will need to make a run to wally world to pick up some flex seal! it sounds like it's time to get rid of the coil covers! Great idea! Thank's and HH..C-Dog

I use the duplicolor brand from one of the local auto stores and its not a thick coating but doesnt wear off easily either.
there is also an underbody spray that would probably work well.

epoxy did not work well for me, it chipped way to easily on clamshells and the like.

bedliner is the way to go, for me anyways.

Might have to give some a try just need to find it somewhere besides the big "W". Don't like to give them my money. Been using the regular Dupli Color with fair results but it wears through on the edges. My local car parts shop also dropped their regular line and went with the Dupli Color Bed Armor. The Bed Armor has some metal in it so now I have to find another store.

Anyone ever tried Shoe Goo? Wondered about that stuff....

CodyDog: I thought about the non-spray Plasti Dip - just wasn't sure if I could do a neat job of coating the coils with it.
Sailorman: I hear 'ya re: Evil Mart, sometimes it's hard to avoid them, though. I see that there's a bunch of it on eBay (talk about evil, heh), but no bargains. Haven't tried shoe-goo - I bet that would do the job, though.
